Goosebumps Wiki

Vathor, also known as Mr. Horvat, is the main antagonist of the third book in the Goosebumps House of Shivers book series, Night of the Living Mummy.

History[]

In ancient Egypt, the boy-king Raman is killed by a snake bite to the neck. His mother, Isis, and advisor Khufu send for a powerful sorcerer named Vathor to bring Raman back to life. Vathor arrives and spreads a magic dust with the intent of reviving Raman, but it doesn't initially work. Raman is mummified, but awakens months later, learning that the powerful magic amulet he had around his neck is missing. They learn from Vathor's assistant Maliki that Vathor stole the amulet and traveled into the future. Raman vows to recover the amulet and put a stop to Vathor once and for all.

In present time, a boy named Happy Silverman travels to the museum with his science class, led by their teacher, a man named Mr. Horvat. Happy sneaks into the Egyptian exhibit and discovers Raman. Raman enters Happy's mind and forces Happy to help him find the amulet. This includes several cases of running into Mr. Horvat, who seems unassuming to both kids. However, Happy and Raman soon find the amulet in Mr. Horvat's bag, and learn that Horvat was Vathor the entire time. As Happy gets a hold of the amulet, his friend Jayden shows up and tries to get it back, saying that he was under the control of Vathor the entire time. As Happy fights with Jayden over the amulet, a flash of lightning strikes, sending Happy to ancient Egypt where he comes face to face with Vathor and his army of cats. With the amulet in his possession, Vathor threatens to turn Happy into a mouse or a bird, but gets stopped by Isis, who manages to grab the amulet and turn Vathor into a snake. She tries to step on him, but he escapes, seemingly never to be seen again.

Personality[]

As Mr. Horvat, Vathor seems like a fairly normal person. However, that proves to not really be the case, as Vathor shows how evil he is by stealing the amulet and threatening to use its powers on Happy. He also enters the mind of Jayden and forces him to do his bidding.

Trivia[]

  • Horvat, the name that Vathor uses as his alias, is an anagram of his real name, Vathor.
