The Bookworm is one of the main antagonists of the first book in the Goosebumps House of Shivers book series, Scariest. Book. Ever..
History[]
The Bookworm is a book collector who wants his collection of books to be the most valuable in the world. Having learned of the scariest book in the world, which would unleash evil into the world if it were ever destroyed or opened, the Bookworm had invaded Uncle Wendell's home in the Wayward Forest with Jesse, who is either his daughter or a henchwoman hired to help him obtain the book. After arriving at the house, he quickly incapacitated both Uncle Wendell and The Collector, locking the former in the attic and the latter in a shed.
When twins Betty and Billy arrive, the Bookworm pretends to be Uncle Wendell, and sends the twins into the forest under the pretense of looking for the book, which he claims had been stolen by a thief. This is a ruse to get them out of the house so he and Jesse can continue to search for the book. When the twins return and free the Collector, the Bookworm threatens them to get the book, eventually locking the three into a safe, though they escape.
After the twins and the Collector escape, the real Uncle Wendell escapes as well, tying up the Bookworm and Jesse before leaving to find the children. The Bookworm is not seen for the rest of the story, and it is assumed that he, Jesse, and the Collector were all turned in to the authorities after Uncle Wendell, Betty, and Billy arrived back at the house with the book.
General information[]
Personality[]
When Betty and Billy first arrive at Uncle Wendell's home, the Bookworm acts very kind to them. However, he is in truth a ruthless man willing to threaten others including children to get what he wants. He has no issues with abandoning the children in the forest to face possible death. He has a twisted sense of humor, joking about having Jesse burn the Collector with her flamethrower. He is also quite petty, burning all of Uncle Wendell's cookbooks just to spite him. Besides this, The Bookworm is shown to enjoy mocking others, telling The Collector that he is a loser when he thinks he has managed to get the book from him.
Physical appearance[]
He is described as a large man in a flannel shirt with a spikey black beard.
