The House of No Return[]

The Danger Club

The Danger Club consists of three sixth-grade kids — Robbie (who is also the narrator of this story), Nathan, and Lori — who are trying to recruit the most adventurous people to hang out with them. To be part of this club, one must manage to spend one hour at an abandoned house that's said to be haunted.
Chris Wakely

A shy kid who's recently moved to town with his family. Robbie and his friends try to recruit him to their club, but Chris is reluctant to do it, since he's always been afraid of the supernatural.
Ghost Couple

A married couple who have died and now haunt the abandoned house on Willow Hill.

Teacher's Pet[]

Character Description
Becca Thompson and Benjy Connor

The two main characters in this story. They've been best friends since kindergarten, and they both love playing sports and cooking.
Mr. Blankenship

The kids' new sixth-grade teacher, who's obsessed with snakes. He's tall, bald, and extremely skinny.
Ms. Wenger

A teacher at Becca and Benjy's school who everyone loves due to her fun and unusual teaching methods.
Melissa Potter

A kid in Mr. Blankenship's class.

Strained Peas[]

Character Description
Nicholas

The protagonist and narrator of this story. Nicholas is a young kid who is upset at the idea of no longer being an only child.
Nicholas's parents

Nick's mother and father aren't given a detailed description. They don't believe their son when he tells them about all the chaos the new baby is causing.
Hannah

She's the baby Nicholas's parents bring home from the hospital. She constantly wrecks havoc around their house, causing the parents to blame Nicholas.
Mrs. Morgan

Mrs. Morgan is Nicholas's sitter. She stays at their house while the parents are at the hospital.
Nicholas's other relatives

They show up very briefly to visit the family and meet the new baby.
Dr. Davis

He's the doctor who calls Nicholas's mother to inform her that her baby had been accidentally switched at birth with another child.
Hannah's mother

She's the real mother of Hannah, the baby Nicholas's parents bring home the first time.
Grace

Grace is Nicholas's real sister. The parents bring her home upon learning that she's their actual child.

Strangers in the Woods[]

Character Description
Lucy

The protagonist and narrator of this story. Lucy is a young girl who's sent to spend six weeks with her great-aunt in a town called Fairview.
Jessica

Jessica is one of Lucy's friends back home. The two have a conversation over the phone at the beginning of the story.
Great-Aunt Abigail

She's Lucy's great-aunt. She's a nice and quiet old lady, but Lucy notices she's acting different than usual when she arrives.
Lucy's parents

They're the parents of the protagonist. They leave Lucy with Great-Aunt Abigail while they're on a big trip to Asia.
Muttster

Muttster is Lucy's big brown dog. He's very well-behaved, and he almost never barks, but he starts behaving in a strange way when they arrive at Great-Aunt Abigail's house.
Film crew

A group of people who are working on a movie that's being filmed in the woods behind Abigail's house. Lucy finds them when wandering around at night.

Good Friends[]

Dylan

The protagonist of this story. Dylan is a young boy who is constantly bullied and bossed around by his older brother.
Jordan

Dylan's best friend. He's a bold kid who likes pulling pranks, most often on his sister.
Dylan's mom

She is mentioned a few times throughout the story but never directly appears.
Richard

Dylan's older brother. Richard is 14 years old, and he's way bigger and stronger than Dylan. He's also really bossy and often torments his little brother.
Ashley

She's Jordan's seven years old sister. She loves sitting around playing with her Barbie dolls.
Jaclyn

Jaclyn is Ashley's imaginary friend. Jordan is constantly mocking his sister for having an imaginary friend.
Axel and Foley

Richard's two pet tarantulas. Dylan and Jordan try to steal them to pull a prank on Ashley, before Richard catches them.

How I Won My Bat[]

Michael Burns

The narrator and protagonist of this story. He's a young boy who's on Lynnfield Junior High's baseball team.
Coach Manning

Michael's baseball coach.
Michael's teammates

They're the other kids on the baseball team. Only a few of them are given names in the story.
Tom Scott

He's a reporter for the local TV station. He tries to interview Michael after an important match against a rival school.
Mr. Smith

The strange-looking little man who runs the Lynnfield Sports Museum. He gives Mike a special baseball bat after an unlucky game.

Mr. Teddy[]

Willa Stewart

The protagonist of this story. She's a 12-year-old girl who loves collecting all kinds of things.
Gina Stewart

She's Willa's 11-year-old sister. She's jealous of her big sister due to the fact that their mom keeps buying Willa new things.
Mrs. Stewart

Willa and Gina's mother. She buys Willa a new Teddy bear from the department store.
Mr. Teddy

Mr. Teddy is a stuffed Teddy bear Mrs. Stewart buys for her older daughter.
Old Bear

An old ragged Teddy bear Willa's owned and slept with since she was a little child. Upon being gifted a new plush toy by her mother, Willa leaves Old Bear on a shelf and quickly forgets about him.
Maggie

A girl who invites Gina for a sleepover at her house. She's only mentioned once in the story.

Seth Gold

The protagonist and narrator of this story. He's a twelve-year-old boy who used to love channel-surfing on the TV, until he found a mysterious remote control which could be used to control people.
Megan Gold

Seth's 4-year-old sister. She gets into a fight with him over the new universal remote control.
Mr. and Mrs. Gold

They're Seth and Megan's parents. Mr. Gold gets the universal remote from a small store.
Sparky

Sparky is the Golds' pet beagle.
Ms. Gifford

Seth's school teacher. She gives the class a pop quiz in geography, which Seth hadn't studied for.
School kids

They're the other kids who go to Seth's school. Only a few of them are referred to by their name.
Mr. Pinkus

He's the school's lunchroom monitor. Seth freezes him during lunch by pointing at him with the control and pressing the "pause" button.
Principal

She's the principal at the school Seth goes to. Much like Mr. Pinkus, she gets frozen by Seth, after chaos ensues at the lunchroom due to magical remote.

Broken Dolls[]

The protagonist of this story. Tamara is a 12-year-old who has a huge doll collection.
Neal Baker

He's Tamara's seven year old brother. He's quite impatient and often breaks his sister's precious dolls.
Mr. and Mrs. Baker

They're Tamara and Neal's parents. They take the kids to the crafts fair.
Old lady

She's a creepy old woman who owns a handmade doll booth at the crafts fair.

A Vampire in the Neighborhood[]

The protagonist and narrator of this story. She's a sixth grader who suspects there's something wrong with the new girl at school.
Carrie, Yvonne and Joey

They're Maddy's best friends. They all become obsessed with spying on the new girl to find out the truth about her.
Helga Nuegenstorm

She's the new kid who's just moved to a creepy old house in the neighborhood. She's pretty, but dresses all in black and wears dark lipstick, which throws off the protagonists.

Maddy and her friends' sixth-grade teacher.
