Ramona Pamani is a character in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. She is portrayed by Sakina Jaffrey and Sahana Srinivasan portrays a younger version of the character.
History[]
In 1969, Ramona joined a team with her father, Avi Pamani. They had a facility under Fort Jerome, where they had a ship stored. They and three other scientists were trying to find a treatment for an infection that the ship passed to any animals, including humans. After many trials, they were able to use the serum to treat a mouse. They were excited to try it on a human, Garrett, next. However, Ramona realized her father wasn't planning to use it to help Garrett, but to disable the ship. When she told the other scientists, they backed her up and refused, but Avi said it was the only way to save humanity and agreed to inject it himself. He did so, but while they were sleeping that night, he woke Ramona and told her to put on her protective suit. The ship was fighting the serum. They found his team already infected, so Avi led Ramona to the exit. After she had climbed out, he told her his suit had been compromised and said she needed to continue his work alone. Then he closed the door, sealing himself and the others inside.
Ramona took his advice and continued his research. She eventually perfected his serum and dedicated her life to keeping the threat contained. When four teens disappeared in 1994 after attempting to spend the night at Fort Jerome, she appeared in a 20/20 episode about it and implied they were pulled out to sea by a fast-moving current. This narrative was accepted by most and the teens were eventually declared dead.[1]
Ramona had a bulletin board where she had pictures of Matty Brewer, Hannah Parker, Sameer, and Nicole, four teens who disappeared in 1994, along with an article about them being declared dead. Below it, she posted pictures of Cece Brewer, Devin Brewer, Alex Diaz, Frankie Garcia Bravo, C.J. Lewis, and Trey Jimenez.[2]
Ramona came to the hospital when Trey was found after going missing. She had Devin and Frankie leave the room so she could examine him, pretending to be his doctor. Later, she told Jen and Anthony that he was showing signs of PTSD and it could be days, months, or even years before he started speaking again. Once she was done, she left and threw her lab coat in the trash. When C.J. asked her where the ICU was, she told him she didn't know because she didn't work there.[3]
Ramona came to Anthony's house and when she saw his severed head on the ground, she put it in her bag and took it with her over his objections that she couldn't stop what was happening.[4] She took his body back to her lab, where she used a device to dissolve them into black goo after telling him her life's work was keeping what was in Fort Jerome from destroying the world.[5]
Ramona came home one day and found the teens in her place, looking at her research. She told them to get way from it, but they said they already knew everything. She said not everything was in that book. They asked for her help freeing Anthony. She agreed to help them, but said they had to move quickly because they didn't have a lot of time.[1]
Ramona gave each of the kids a dose of the serum, saying it was effective for an hour. Then she sent them inside with one extra dose for Anthony. Then she opened the hatch and said she'd keep it open from above. Despite this, when they went inside, she closed the hatch behind them. They found a way to escape and Jen and Anthony went to Ramona's. They found that she had Avi in her lab and was examining him. She told them she needed his help to continue the work. When Avi became alert, he told Ramona that he'd been wrong all those years ago and she needed to let it go. Then he coughed up a pod that encased him and turned him into a critter, which Jen then dissolved by shooting him with the serum gun when he chased them. Jen and Anthony went back to Fort Jerome, realizing they needed to release the ship. When they did so, the aliens left with the teens from 1994, plus all the scientists who had worked at the facility.[6]
