Mickey and his friend Amanda agree to take care of Mrs. Caplan's cat while she is away. The black cat, Bella, seems to really like Amanda. While watching the cat, Amanda accidentally gets her gum on Bella's tail. Amanda has to cut off some of Bella's fur in order to remove the gum. Everything really goes bad when Mickey and Amanda accidentally leave the front door open. Bella runs outside and is hit and killed by a large truck. The truck driver stops and apologizes to Mickey and Amanda before driving off. Mickey is worried because Bella's body has seemingly disappeared, but Amanda says that the driver probably took the body. Before Mickey has the chance to tell anyone about Bella's death, Amanda suggests going to the pet store and buying an identical replacement cat to take Bella's place. The kids go to a pet store called "Cat Heaven". While the two friends peruse the odd pet store, they stumble into a room that had a "Keep Out" sign on the door. All of the cats in this room are completely silent. One of the cats looks exactly like Bella. A worker, Lou, says that the store won't sell that particular cat. Amanda distracts the worker and Mickey steals the cat. Mickey accidentally sets several other cats free in the process.
Mickey lives next door to a couple called the Caplans and the Caplans have a cat named Bella. One day, the Caplans were going on a vacation, so they put Mickey in charge of looking after Bella while they were gone. Mickey also invited his best friend, Amanda Underwood to help him with the cat-sitting and both of them were introduced to Bella, who already took a liking to Amanda. The Caplans told Mickey and Amanda that they have to feed Bella twice a day and give her water. They also told them to clean the litter box, to which Amanda said would be Mickey's job and Mickey sarcastically thought that was nice. The Caplans told the two kids that they will be sailing for six days and that they have left some phone numbers if there were any problems. But Mickey and Amanda assured the Caplans that they can handle the job and there will not be any trouble.

When the two kids arrive back at Mrs. Caplan's house, "Bella Two" seems to be adjusting quickly to her new home. However, Bella Two freaks out and tears apart Mickey's shirt. Later that night, Mickey lies down to go to sleep. He hears the sound of a cat in his room, but he can't find any cat. He notices that all three of his pet fish are gone. Chunks of the three fish are still floating in the tank.
The two kids took care of Bella both before and after school and Mickey thought the job was fun, especially for him because he had always liked cats and he remembered that the Caplans were going to pay him and Amanda fifty dollars each for the week. The first day went really well for him and Amanda and when they were done feeding her in the afternoon, Mickey wondered if Bella was lonely and if they should spend some time her, but Bella didn't seem to mind and Amanda pointed out that Mickey had something disgusting in his nose and Mickey was astounded that his friend had waited all day to tell him. Mickey thought the job was going perfectly and he did not think there was going to be any trouble, but he did agree to see his parents if there was any trouble. Later the next morning, he and Amanda fed Bella and the cat made Amanda laugh, causing her to drop her gum on Bella's tail. Mickey and his friend tried to have the pulled off, but Bella's fur was stuck to it so Amanda had to cut it off with scissors. Mickey was astounded with Amanda for cutting a bald spot in Bella's tail, but she assured him that it will grow back before the Caplans came home. Amanda also noticed that Mickey was shaking and sweating and she asked what he would do if they had a real emergency with Bella, to which Mickey jokingly replied that he will totally freak out.

The next day, Mickey and Amanda go to the Caplan's house and check on Bella Two. Bella Two seems to be well behaved until she begins clawing at the couch and making a mess. Mickey and Amanda leave the Caplan's house in order to get to school, but they are stopped when they see Lou and two other workers from Cat Heaven walking around. Mickey and Amanda manage to avoid them and get to school. At school, Mickey is startled throughout class because he thinks he can hear the cries of a cat. Strangely, nobody else in the class is able to hear a cat. At lunch, Mickey finds an orange cat in his backpack, but when he tries to show it to Amanda, it disappears. Later, while in the locker room, Mickey starts hearing many cats. He wants to stop hearing the cats meowing desperately. He is eventually confronted by the large group of cats responsible for the noise. They all look menacing and have patchy, torn-up fur. They all begin jumping on Mickey, but vanish when Mickey's gym teacher appears. When Mickey leaves school, his is very nervous. He is almost stopped by Lou and the two other workers from Cat Heaven, but he manages to run away from them. All three workers begin chasing Mickey. Mickey runs back into the school and hides in a locker until the men leave.
The next day, after Mickey fed his goldfish and his favorite pet, a white mouse named Zorro, he and Amanda went to the Caplans' to feed Bella, arguing about who was becoming the animal expert. Unfortunately, they were so busy arguing that they did not realize that they had accidentally left the front door open before they could do so and Bella sprang out of the house. Mickey and Amanda tried to catch her, but they were unable to prevent Bella from being run over by a big red truck that was passing by and Bella was killed in the process! The driver sincerely apologized as he was unable to stop in time and Mickey and Amanda could hardly believe that Bella was dead, feeling really terrible and were dreading what the Caplans would say if they found out. Bella's body vanished before they could put it in a rubbish bag, making them think that the driver had taken it so they wouldn't see her body squashed flat. Mickey was most upset about this and felt like calling his mother to tell her what had happened. He was about to do so when Amanda stopped him with an idea and told him that there are a million black cats in the world and suggested that they go to a pet store or the pound and find a cat that looks like Bella and substitute it and make the Caplans think it is Bella. Mickey told Amanda that it was a crazy idea and the Caplans will very likely find out that it is not Bella. But he couldn't talk Amanda out of the idea and Amanda started looking up where they could find one, with Mickey feeling very uneasy as this was an idea that could get them in deeper trouble. Amanda managed to find a store called Cat Heaven, which had a lot of black cats and after Mickey wrote a note to his parents, he and Amanda took the bus to Cat Heaven, where Mickey was spooked by what appeared to be a huge yellow-eyed cat with its fangs bared. But it turned out to be a giant billboard for Cat Heaven and Mickey was embarrassed that he got scared by a billboard.

Mickey sprints back to the Caplan's house. He opens the door and Bella leaps on him. However, the cat falls through him. Mickey becomes really scared when he notices the missing patch of fur on Bella's tail. This cat was Bella One! Mickey decides that he must take Bella back to Cat Heaven. When Mickey gets to the pet store, Lou tells him that they will not take Bella back and that Bella is dead. That was what Lou had been trying to tell Mickey for the past few days.
Mickey and Amanda were astounded at how big a building with so many cats was (something that they both agreed with for once). Once they went inside, Mickey and Amanda saw that there were a whole load of cats, which were yowling over some music that was being played, reminding Mickey of chirping crickets on a camping trip with his parents. He found the store weird like in a horror movie, to which Amanda told him that it is just cats in cages. Mickey did not want Amanda to consider him a wimp, but he really wanted to leave the store and go home so he started to follow Amanda to isle 1 when they were approached by a staff member named Lucy, who told them that they have a hundred or two cats and gave them a beeper to push a button on when they find a cat and she will find them. The cats were all mixed up because of their numbers, so that made the search very difficult. As Mickey and Amanda looked in the aisles, another staff member named Lou called out that he had found the black cat they were looking for, but it was the wrong cat. Lou told them to go browse and Mickey and Amanda continued to search, seeing that Lou was not going to be of any help. There were a lot of black cats in the store, but none of them matched Bella, making the search even more excruciating. After a while, Mickey lost it and yelled at Amanda that this was not going to work and that she was crazy, causing her to retaliate by shoving him into a door that they were not allowed to enter, which led to a room with more cats, which were very silent. Mickey decided that those cats were not for sale and called for Amanda to come with him, but she was too busy staring at a black cat in one of the cages. The black cat appeared to be a perfect match for Bella, which Mickey and Amanda were most delighted with. Mickey was about to open the cat's cage when Lou appeared and ordered them to get away from the cage. The two kids protested that was the cat they wanted, but Lou told them those cats are special and are not for sale and that he has other black cats they might like. But the two kids really needed that cat, so Mickey whispered to Amanda to distract Lou somehow while he sneaked back to the room and grab the black cat and run out through the back door. Mickey knew it was stealing, but he thought they had no choice and he really surprised Amanda because she was usually the bold one. So while Amanda distracted Lou by having a "sneezing fit" at the front of the store, Mickey quietly hurried back to the room and she didn't give him any trouble as he pulled her out of her cage. But the back door was stuck when Mickey tried to open it and Lou realized what was happening and started running after Mickey. Mickey managed to get the door open and hurried through from the parking lot to some tall weeds and hid behind a tree from view. Amanda caught up with him and told Mickey that she is perfect and their luck is changing. Then Lou stepped out of the door and spotted them and he continued to pursue them, but Mickey and Amanda managed to escape from him when they realized they were at a bus stop and got on a bus just before he could catch up to them. The two kids were really shaken by their close call while Bella Two was totally calm throughout the whole thing and Mickey wondered how she would react to her new home. When they got back to the Caplans' house, the new Bella went to the many places the old Bella would go to, including her favorite spot on a tattered pillow beside a couch. Mickey and Amanda thought that was way weird but then Mickey began to agree that this might actually work and that Amanda was a genius. But then Bella startled him and Amanda by acting wild and slashing the front of Mickey's T-shirt in two. Mickey was not bleeding, but he and Amanda were shocked at Bella's change of attitude. Amanda suggested that she is probably just nervous and needs more time to adjust before the Caplans came home and that Bella will be normal by the time they do so. Mickey hoped Amanda was right and they went home before Bella could wake up and attack again.

Mickey goes back to the Caplan's house. Amanda is there, so Mickey explains what happened. When the two kids go inside the Caplan's house, they find that the house now contains many cats. Mickey assumes that all of these cats are dead. Suddenly, Mrs. Caplan arrives, and she immediately asks how all of the cats got into her house and demands to see Bella. Mickey and Amanda both explain that Bella was killed by a truck and that they had tried to replace her with a cat from Cat Heaven. Mrs. Caplan then says that Bella has been dead for four years. Mr. Caplan tells the kids that Bella had been hit by a truck and killed four years ago, but they were able to bring Bella back by visiting Cat Heaven. The name "Cat Heaven" is very literal. Mr. Caplan also explains that if an undead cat from Cat Heaven is let outside, it will reenact its death. Mickey then realizes that when he let out many of the dead cats by accident, they began haunting him. Mr. Caplan explains that if a cat was taken from Cat Heaven by anyone other than its true owner, the undead cat would become evil and haunt the new owner forever. Then, Mickey has an idea to get rid of all of the cats. Mickey runs to his house, he grabs his pet mouse, and then he runs back to the Caplan's house. Mickey shows the cats the mouse and coaxes them outside with it. Once the cats are outside, they would have to reenact their deaths and be sent back to Cat Heaven. Mickey is sad that he had to sacrifice his mouse. Mr. Caplan and Mrs. Caplan congratulate Mickey on his quick thinking.
At dinner, Mickey thought of telling his parents what had happened and what he and Amanda had done, but then decided against it for fear that they might tell the Caplans about what the two kids have done. After spending some time with Zorro and his goldfish (who were named Nick, Joe and Kevin), Mickey was in bed, thinking about the old and new Bella and was wondering if he and Amanda could really get away with it. He tried to concentrate on going to sleep when he heard a shrill cat yowl from underneath his bed, but there was no cat when he looked there. Then the cat yowled again, but it was not outside or anywhere in the room. Mickey searched around his room, remembering a movie that he and Amanda had once seen about an evil cat that haunted a family from inside the walls and Mickey was so freaked out by that movie that he made his father move his bed away from the wall. Mickey listened inside the walls, but did not hear a thing, so he was about to go to sleep when he saw the shadow of a cat. Then Mickey heard a soft splash across the room, so he walked over and saw his goldfish brutally torn to shreds. Mickey was appalled at this and he heard the cat yowl again. Mickey looked around for the cat screaming for it, but once again, he could not find it.

While he is going to his tennis lesson, Mickey sees a sign for a store called "Mouse Heaven". Mickey visits the store and finds his pet mouse.
Mickey's parents left early the next morning, so he never got to tell them about the cat cries and what happened to his goldfish. To add to that, Mickey had been awake all night, due to listening for more cat cries and being too afraid to go back to sleep. He tried to tell Amanda as they were going to feed Bella, but she started talking about a video game she played with her cousin and Mickey never got a word in. They couldn't find Bella when they got to the Caplans' house at first, but they eventually found her underneath the living room, which was where they started. Mickey then set up her breakfast, believing her to be hungry and Amanda (who thought Bella was in a cuddly mood) set her down. But then Bella darted back under the couch and started ripping it to shreds. Mickey, astounded at how crazy the cat was being, tried to stop her, but he ended up being scratched and bitten by her. Amanda insisted to him that Bella will probably be better after they leave, so they left the house with Bella screeching at the top of her lungs. Mickey started heading down the steps when he saw that Lou and two other staff from Cat Heaven had followed him and Amanda. The two of them hid behind some bushes and they heard Lou tell the other two staff that they have to find the two kids as they have no idea of the trouble they are in. This made Mickey think of giving Bella back to them, but Amanda reminded him that they do not want to tell the Caplans what had happened to Bella and that it is no big deal if they had taken one cat. The two kids then hurried to their school when Mickey realized that he still hadn't told Amanda about the cat cries and what happened to his poor fish, but he decided to tell her at lunch. Mickey tried to stay awake and alert in class as it was an important morning to him to be awake for the Civil War unit, but due to his lack of sleep from the night before, he missed some of what was said. Then Mickey started hearing cat sounds in the room, but there wasn't a cat to be seen, making himself look foolish when he asked everyone else if they could see it, therefore delaying the Civil War unit as a result. After that, Mickey searched around the lunchroom for Amanda whilst pretending to laugh along with the kids who were laughing and meowing at him. As he kept an eye out for Amanda at his lunch table, Mickey reached in his bag for his lunch, when he saw what appeared to be an orange cat inside, which hissed furiously at him. Mickey was horrified and seeing Amanda coming in the lunchroom, he rushed over to her and pulled her to his table to show her the cat, only to find it gone and Mickey's stuff in its place. Amanda was annoyed at this and demanded Mickey to tell her what was going on and he told her about the cat cries and what happened to his fish. Mickey sincerely told Amanda that he was not making it up, but Amanda told him that he was stressed and upset because of what had happened and how he had stolen the cat and that was why he was seeing cats everywhere. Mickey was astounded and angry that Amanda said he was one that stole it as he did the "actual running out the door stealing thing" and that the cat switch was Amanda's idea and now she did not want to hear what was going on and that she just wanted to believe that he was imagining things. Mickey reached into his bag again and this time, he found a dead mouse inside. Seeing this was a gift from the cat, Mickey started to find a place to figure out the situation. He went into the gym as he had gym class after lunch, beginning to think that Amanda could be right when he reached his locker and something fell on him when he opened it. At first Mickey thought it was a cat, but it turned out to be one of his sneakers. Mickey felt really silly until he found a dead sparrow with its head dangling by a thread tucked inside the shoe and he heard more cats yowling. Mickey looked around screaming for them and was starting to think he was surrounded by invisible cats until the cats finally appeared physically, a whole load of them! All of them pounced on Mickey, prompting him to scream for help, attracting the attention of one of his teachers and several kids and the cats fled the room. Mickey told them what had happened, but not surprisingly, there weren't any cats in the shower room. Mickey spent the rest of the day keeping an eye out for cats, never being so stressed and jumpy in his life. After school, he attempted to talk to Amanda about taking Bella back to Cat Heaven, but she retaliated by telling him that she had a violin lesson and to save his ghost stories for tonight, which Mickey was hurt at. As he was about to leave the school, Mickey saw Lou and his two friends again and they pursued Mickey throughout the school, with Mickey wondering why they were so desperate to catch him. Mickey managed to lose the three men by hiding in a locker that was left open and he was trapped in there until a friend of his named Greg Baum came by and freed Mickey. After telling his friend that being in the locker was a dare thing, Mickey hurried home, knowing Lou and his friends will not give up and wondering what they will do if they caught him.

Mickey told his story to the [[Story-Keeper]] at [[HorrorLand (Theme Park)|HorrorLand]]'s Hall of Horrors. After the story is over, the Story-Keeper informs Mickey that he will receive a gift for visiting the Hall Of Horrors. The gift will come in a carrying case and be named "Shredder".
Mickey thought of talking to Amanda, which made him remember Bella, so he went to the Caplans' to feed her, hoping that she had calmed down and that she will be nice to him. Bella attacked Mickey when he came into the house, but this time he was ready for her. While he held her in midair, Mickey saw to his shock that she had a chunk of fur missing from her tail, the same as the old Bella who was dead! Mickey was real disturbed at this, so he found a pet carrier to carry Bella in to take her to Cat Heaven. He attempted to call Amanda, but never got an answer, so he decided to take Bella back by himself. The trip to Cat Heaven took longer than before, but Bella stayed calm for most of the time, which Mickey was most relieved of. Mickey eventually reached Cat Heaven and was surprised to see that a cat riot had erupted there. Mickey was starting to think this could be his fault when Lou ambushed him, shoved the carrier into his hands and dragged him out the door. Mickey told them he brought Bella back and tried to apologize for stealing her, but Lou told him that he can't bring the cat back, which was why they were after him. They told a confused Mickey that they cannot bring a dead cat back and they angrily told him to leave. Mickey was shocked to hear that he was carrying a dead cat and wondered how Bella could be back after being run over by a truck. On the bus, Mickey asked Bella if she really was dead, to which she replied by trying to lick his hand.

Mickey returned to the Caplans' with Bella and found Amanda waiting for him there. He explained to her what had happened, but she thought he was playing a joke on her. Mickey insisted that he was serious, so Amanda asked him to come inside for a chat and when they did so, they found the living room filled with cats, all of them undead. Mickey and Amanda were horrified at this and attempted to flee from the cats, when Mr. and Mrs. Caplan entered the house and they were most surprised to see the cats. Mickey and Amanda explained to them about how Bella got run over and how they tried to substitute her to fool them into thinking it was the real Bella. Mickey apologized sincerely, but Mrs. Caplan surprised him and Amanda by telling them that Bella died four years ago. Mr. Caplan explained that Bella ran out of the house and was run over by a truck but they couldn't bear to part with her, so someone told them of the place where cats who have violent deaths go, which was Cat Heaven revealing that it really is cat heaven. Mr. Caplan explained to the two astonished kids that the cats in front are live cats, but the cats in the back room are dead and they are fine when their owners take them home, but the problem is if they get out of the house they reenact their violent death and Mrs. Caplan explained that it happened with Bella three times before. Mickey then realised that the cats must have escaped when he stole Bella (as he knocked a few cages over at that point). The Caplans were horrified at this and they told Mickey that only the dead cat's true owner can claim it and it will become evil if it was taken by the wrong owner and Mickey had upset the whole cat universe and the dead cats belong to him now and they will stay with him forever. This made Mickey real desperate and he attempted to make the dead cats go away, but to no avail. Then Mickey came up with a better, but heartbreaking idea, which involved Zorro. Mickey was very sad to do this as Zorro was a good mouse to him, but he had no choice as he was his only hope of being rid of the dead cats. So Mickey took Zorro to the Caplans' and showed him to the dead cats before releasing him and ordering the cats, including Bella to go after him. Bella and the other cats went out the door after Zorro and Bella was once again run over by a truck. Mr. and Mrs. Caplan thought that was genius as the other cats would now recreate their violent deaths too and whilst people cannot return them, they return themselves. The Caplans' then went around to unpacking before going to Cat Heaven to pick up Bella. And they paid Mickey and Amanda an extra fifty dollars each since they went through so much trouble.

Mickey was happy to see Zorro and was wondering if he should take him home.

Mickey is quite sensible and cautious but a little uptight and he does tend to panic if something bad was happening and he does not like to cause trouble. He is also a pretty quiet person, especially next to Amanda. He is really best friends with Amanda as she has lived across the street from him his whole life and he thinks she is like something that has always been there. Sometimes they don't always get along and Mickey often thinks that Amanda is weird with how she says her sentences. But Mickey has always been used to Amanda, no matter what. He also finds it weird to be next door to someone who used to be his fifth-grade teacher. Mickey is quite an animal lover, as he likes cats (but it is unknown if he is still into them to this day) and he has some pets of his own and he is most fond of Zorro because of how cute he is. Mickey does provide some humor and he always tries his best to be a good person to everyone.
