Matty Brewer is a recurring character in Goosebumps: The Vanishing. He is portrayed by Christopher Paul Richards.
The deceased brother of Anthony Brewer who died in 1994, no one seemed to know what happened to him. In-universe, people believed he died of drowning.
History[]
Matty and his friends, Nicole and Sameer decided they would spend the night at Fort Jerome on a dare. Needing proof, Matty recruited new student Hannah Parker to record them on a camera he'd borrowed from his brother, Anthony. His ex-girlfriend, Jen, was jealous of Hannah and stole her clothes while she was in the shower.
When Matty's brother, Anthony, learned their plans, he tried to get Matty to reconsider, but Matty and his friends decided to go anyway.[1]
Hannah filmed them as they made their way inside. Sameer suggested they could just leave and no one would know they didn't actually stay, but Hannah filming made that impossible. They were startled by a sound, but discovered it was only Anthony, whom they called Stink and who had followed them. Matty left to walk Stink back out. When they got to the exit, Stink told Matty he wished he didn't have a brother, then left.[2] When Matty returned, they investigated a machine in the room. It started sparking and so did a panel on the wall, then a hole opened up in the floor. It emitted a gas and Matty said they were leaving. Before they could, Matty's face started melting. The four of them were never seen again and were later declared dead. Thirty years later, Matty's clothes from that night were finally returned to his brother.[3]
Matty and the others were actually encased in pods under Fort Jerome in a facility. When Anthony became trapped, his kids came to find him with their friends and when they rescued Anthony, Anthony rescued the others. They took them home, where they quickly got stir crazy. Not wanting to arouse suspicion by allowing them out together, the teens split them up and took them out individually, except Matty, who agreed to stay at the house with Cece and Alex. They looked through old photo albums until Matty got up to get a drink and coughed up a pod that encased him and turned him into a critter. These critters attacked the teens. Finally, Matty was released when Anthony and Jen released the alien ship. Matty and his friends, plus the scientists who worked at the facility, all went with the aliens back to space.[4]
