Mario Galagos is the main protagonist of the second book in the Goosebumps House of Shivers series, Goblin Monday.

History[]

Mario goes with his friends Todd and Jewel Simms to their grandparents house in snowy Vermont. He meets their grandparents, the eccentric Grandma Alba, nicknamed MomMom, and Grandpa Harlan, nicknamed Tweety. Grandpa Tweety is an author and researcher of mythical creatures, including that of the goblin, which he at first claims are around the area, along with imps and other creatures. As Mario explores the area, he discovers a goblin that tries to attack him. However, when he tries to tell anyone, they don't believe him and never see the goblin whenever it shows up. Mario also begins to suspect that something is strange about Grandpa Tweety. His pet birds end up disappearing, he has a room where the walls are lined with bird feet, and he later discovers Grandpa Tweety eating birds in the forest.

Mario soon finds the goblin and manages to capture it. When he shows the others, more goblins show up. Grandpa Tweety, MomMom and Todd and Jewel's parents then transform into goblins. They capture Mario, Todd and Jewel and try to lock them in the birdcage. However, Mario manages to grab a leaf blower that he brought with him that's filled with nutmeg, the only substance that can defeat a goblin. Mario reveals he's actually a goblin hunter. He shoots the goblins, which subdues them. He then has Mr. and Mrs. Simms take him, Todd and Jewel home where he'll have the goblins taken in. On the drive back, he reveals to Todd and Jewel that he's actually a rookie goblin hunter and this was his first mission. He's also out of nutmeg. This is good news for Todd and Jewel who turn into goblins and tear him apart.

General information[]

Personality[]

Mario starts the book excited and overly eager. Living in Key West, Florida his entire life, he never experienced real snow before his trip to Vermont. As a goblin hunter, he had a sense of justice in wanting to defeat goblins like the Simms family. However, because he was a rookie and this was his first job, he was also extremely gullible and a very poor judge of character. Namely in that he never suspected Todd and Jewel of being goblins until it was too late.
