Isaiah Howard is a main character in Goosebumps. He is portrayed by Zack Morris.

History[]

Isaiah and his best friend, James Etten, went to get food from Nora Parker, but since the card reader at her place was broken, she gave them some saltines to eat instead. As they left, they watched Lucas Parker ride a skateboard off the roof, injuring himself, and agreed they found him weird.

At school, they had a pep rally, where Isaiah gave a rallying speech while James wore the mascot costume and hyped up the crowd. When they left the pep rally, they saw Sam in the hallway and James panicked because he had a crush on Sam. Allison approached them, taking Isaiah's attention away when she showed them a video that she'd made inviting people to a party at her house for Halloween that had been edited to add farm animal noises. When James said over 1000 people had seen it, Allison wondered what she'd done to make someone at school hate her so much. Colin Stokes interrupted this conversation and called Isaiah into his classroom to tell him that he was on probation and couldn't play in that week's football game unless he got an A on his history test.

Isaiah went home and found his parents fighting over money, so he went outside to play with his football. Margot Stokes, his neighbor and childhood friend, came to him and he told her about the probation. He asked her for help and clarified that he meant for her to let him cheat off her test. She reluctantly agreed to let him do it. The next day, after the test was done, Margot admitted she felt exhilarated. Their conversation was interrupt by Allison coming to him again. The video was sent to her parents, forcing her to change it to another location. Isaiah suggested the Biddle House, as he believed the owner wasn't moving in until the next day. They went to the house to set up for the party. When the power went out, Isaiah went down to the basement, but James refused to go with him. When Isaiah came back, he scared them by taking a picture with a camera he'd found in the basement.

They finished getting the party set up, but Isaiah and Allison fought at the party about him inviting Margot without telling her. Then the party was broken up by the owner coming home and threatening to call the cops. The next day, Nathan Bratt, the owner, found Isaiah at the school and returned the bag Isaiah had left there. He told Isaiah he was a new teacher at the school and promised never to bring it up again if Isaiah spread the word that someone was living in the house and they couldn't have parties there anymore. Isaiah opened the bag and found the two pictures he'd taken at the house. The one of Allison showed her as he'd found her on the ground after leaving the house and the other showed Margot choking. Soon after this, he found Margot in the hallway, having an allergic reaction. He injected her with her EpiPen. Since the picture matched, Isaiah went to find James showed him the camera. However, when he showed James the pictures, they went blank, so James didn't believe Isaiah. He took a picture of Isaiah, which to Isaiah, showed him with a broken arm. James tried to break the camera to keep this from happening. But during halftime, he found the camera, unharmed, in his locker. He tried to avoid going back to the game, but ended up there anyway. He believed he was playing surrounded by fire and ended up getting tackled, which broke his arm. In the hospital, his father told him his doctors expected a full recovery, but it would take 6-8 months.[1]

After Isaiah got home, people continuously dropped off baked goods and get well cards. Margot came to see him and tried to talk to him about the camera, saying she believed him, but he brushed her off.

Isaiah attended practice, despite not being able to play and noticed Isabella filming. He asked if she had footage of the game and asked her to see it when she said she did. Isabella set him up to watch the footage and he realized he didn't know much about her despite going to school with her for years.

At home, Isaiah was taking out the trash when Nora Parker approached him. Before she could say anything, Ben intervened and stopped her from talking to him. But she was able to pass a picture to Margot, who showed it to him, asking if he recognized the subject. He said he did because he was the referee at the game and then he burst into flames. Margot told him it was Harold Biddle. They decided to go to the Harbor Stop to talk to Nora, but found Lucas being attacked by a troll. They improvised weapons and scared the troll off.[2]

Isaiah and Margot agreed that they saw a monster and decided to go talk to James about it. They found James and talked to him, but were startled when he insulted them and even more insulted when Isabella hit him with a bat, splattering him. She explained that it wasn't really James, but a duplicate. She told them how she discovered this and they decided that it must be related to the Biddle house after Isabella's experience with the mask and Isaiah's with the camera. They went to Nora, but she told them if they really wanted to know, they needed to talk to Margot's dad. Margot didn't want to do that, so they went to James's house. When they saw a dupe James leave, they followed him to James's family's mine. There, they fought several more dupes and Isaiah ended up captured by them and put in the same place as the real James. James was upset that Isaiah didn't realize sooner that he had been taken, which Isaiah attributed to James often changing himself to be liked by others. Isabella and Margot found them and tried to lead them out, but they got serrated and had to fight more dupes before being able to escape. They went to the Harbor Stop so James could eat and Margot decided to call her mother, who told her she couldn't trust the other parents and that she'd be there soon.[3]

Ben checked on Isaiah's arm healing and when Isaiah felt pain when he shouldn't have, Ben asked if he was resting it. Despite remembering using his arm to defend his friends, he said he'd been resting it. Ben told him his whole future rested on the arm, upsetting Isaiah.

At school, Isaiah talked to Isabella, James, and Margot about their situation and decided they couldn't wait for Margot's mom and wanted to tell her dad instead. However, when Isaiah went to Margot's house to meet with her dad, Margot said her dad couldn't be trusted after all.

The next day, Isaiah said he wanted to include Allison in their group because she'd seen something in the woods the night of the party. The others were opposed to this, but when Allison came up to them, Isaiah asked her about that night, but she denied seeing anything that night. She became upset when Margot told Isaiah not to tell her. Isaiah followed her out into the hallway and told her that Margot had helped him cheat on a test, playing it off like that was the only secret. After seeing Lucas walking in the hallway with his dirt bike, he went to the others and they realized that Lucas was under the influence of the worms he'd taken from the Biddle house. They watched him ride the bike off the school roof and walk away unscathed. Margot went to tell Nora when Lucas went to attempt the "Booms of Doom," the stunt his father had died attempting. After a confrontation with a worm monster that ended at the saw mill, Isaiah, Isabella, and Lucas later came to the sawmill and picked Lucas and Margot up while Nora stayed behind until the police came.[4]

Isaiah broke up with Allison. He told James about this at a meeting Margot set up. Margot and Lucas came to the meeting late, irritating Isaiah, and Margot said her mom hadn't shared anything. She could have texted, but they already had the meeting set up. Margot called for another meeting, where she showed them a scrapbook Biddle gad given her that allowed her to see memories from when their parents were teens. The others were worried and didn't want Margot to use it, but Margot insisted. When Margot appeared to get trapped in the book, they decided to take it to the Biddle house and follow her there. They saved Margot from burning up in the fire and then watched as their parents walked out of the flames, carrying a case. They realized they were watching their parents kill someone, but Margot and Isaiah believed there had to be more to the story. They wanted to know what was inside the case and Bratt invited to tell them if they came inside his house.[5]

The teens came in and listened to Bratt tell the story of Slappy the Dummy and Ephraim Bratt, leading up to the death of Ephraim's great-grandson, Harold Biddle. Based on his telling, they believed their parents had actually tried to help Harold and were his friends, but Bratt insisted they were murderers who had bullied Harold. They asked him how he knew all this and he told them the twist was that he isn't Bratt, but Harold. He scared the by turning into Harold right in front of them.[6]
