Isabella Chen-Lopez is a main character in Goosebumps. She is portrayed by Ana Yi Puig.
History[]
Isabella filmed a pep rally at her school. When Isaiah Howard gave a speech, she quietly asked him not to drop the microphone, then watched as he did exactly that.[1]
Isabella secretly ran a social media account she used to troll her classmates, including sending the invitation to Allison's party to her parents and forcing her to move it. Her brother, Alan, knew of her antics and encouraged her to go to the relocated party. She decided to do so, but when she stepped away from the crowd, she heard a voice calling her into the basement. There, she found a mask that she put on. It made her more confident and she danced around Allison and Isaiah before going home.
The next day, the mask persuaded Isabella to take it to school with her. She was filming the football practice after school when Isaiah approached her and asked if she had footage of the games. She had another member of the AV club watch her drone while she took him to show him. When she got him set up, he realized he didn't know much about her despite them going to school together for years. She left the room when she heard the drone flying. She found it just in time to watch Lucas Parker jump off the roof and grab it, breaking it. She and Lucas met with Colin Stokes, the guidance counselor, about the incident and Lucas was forced to apologize. He proposed that he could pay her $5/week. Under the influence of the mask, Isabella blew up at them, insulting both Lucas and Mr. Stokes. When she came back to herself, she apologized and said Lucas's proposal of repayment would be fine.
When Isabella got home, she told her mom what had happened, but her mom grounded her as she didn't have her dad's permission to take his drone. She took Isabella's phone and laptop as part of the grounding. Isabella tried to get them out of the drawer, but couldn't. When Alan showed her a video of Lucas's stunt, she decided to get her revenge. She took the mask and went to the Harbor Stop, where she confronted Lucas. She turned into a troll and they fought until Isaiah and Margot intervened and scared her off. Isabella went home and when Alan realized it was her, he begged her to stop. She fought the mask and pulled it off. Then she hugged him and apologized.
They went to a bridge and dropped the mask into the water.
Because of Isabella's recent behavior, Victoria made her come along when she went to Eliza's house to talk to Eliza, Ben, and Nora. She was sent to the game room with James, where they played pool. During one of Isabella's turns, she hit a pool ball and it jumped up and his James, splattering him into goo.[2] Isabella screamed and all the parents ran into the room. Another James appeared behind them, pretending it was a practical joke gone wrong. Victoria was horrified at Isabella's behavior and said they were going home.
At home, Isabella saw another James outside her window who quickly disappeared. The next day, she found another James dupe talking to Isaiah and Margot and hit him in the head, splattering him. She explained to them everything she'd learned and they decided that it must be related to the Biddle house after Isabella's experience with the mask and Isaiah's with the camera. They went to Nora, but she told them if they really wanted to know, they needed to talk to Margot's dad. Margot didn't want to do that, so they went to James's house. When they saw a dupe James leave, they followed him to James's family's mine. There, they fought several more dupes and Isaiah ended up captured by them and put in the same place as the real James. Isabella and Margot found them and tried to lead them out, but they got serrated and had to fight more dupes before being able to escape. They went to the Harbor Stop so James could eat and Margot decided to call her mother, who told her she couldn't trust the other parents and that she'd be there soon.[3]
Isabella was doing her make-up when Victoria came in and asked if she'd apologized to Eliza. Isabella said she hadn't because there was nothing for her to apologize about. At school, Isabella and James lamented how wild their previously boring lives had gotten. Not wanting to keep waiting for Margot's mom, they decided they could trust her dad and agreed to talk to him about everything that was happening. Isaiah also wanted to include Allison in their group because she'd seen something in the woods the night of the party, but Allison denied having seen anything. Before they could talk to Stokes, Margot told them they couldn't trust him after all. Then they connected Lucas's strange behavior to worms that had also come from the Biddle house, meaning Lucas was also involved.[4]
When Margot called for a meeting at James's place, they gathered and waited for her to come up. When Margot arrived, she told them her mother hadn't shared anything.
They met again when Bratt gave Margot a scrapbook, which she discovered allowed her to see into the past to when their parents were in high school. They felt it was too dangerous to keep using, but Margot insisted, wanting to get answers. When Margot got stuck in the memory, they wheeled her body to the Biddle house, where another memory took place, and entered the memory themselves. They saved Margot from burning up in the fire and then watched as their parents walked out of the flames, carrying a case. They realized they were watching their parents kill someone, but Margot and Isaiah believed there had to be more to the story. They wanted to know what was inside the case and Bratt invited to tell them if they came inside his house.[5]
The teens came in and listened to Bratt tell the story of Slappy the Dummy and Ephraim Bratt, leading up to the death of Ephraim's great-grandson, Harold Biddle. Based on his telling, they believed their parents had actually tried to help Harold and were his friends, but Bratt insisted they were murderers who had bullied Harold. They asked him how he knew all this and he told them the twist was that he isn't Bratt, but Harold. He scared the by turning into Harold right in front of them.[6]
