"Invasion of the Body Squeezers" is the eighth and final episode of the second season of the Disney+/Hulu series, Goosebumps.
Synopsis[]
The teens band together to save themselves, their neighborhood, and the world.
Plot[]
As Ramona powers up the electrical panel, Devin asks the others if they're sure about going. He and Cece have to because it's their dad. They decide they're all in it together. Ramona injects Devin with the serum. She says everyone has to get one. It'll protect them from being podded. When Trey asks about the creature they saw crawling around in the video, she says she took care of it. Frankie wants more information, so Ramona says she killed it a long time ago. Ramona's used the serum on herself many times. She hands them a bag with emergency gear in it, including blankets because Anthony will be naked if he comes out of it. The serum only lasts one hour. She hands them a briefcase which has a dose for Anthony in it. When it awakens him, it also awakens the ship. Cece asks if it'll bring him back for sure. Ramona promises them that. She says if they're done there when the serum wears off, they need to make sure they're out of the main room. She turns on the backup generator and says she'll keep the hatch open from where she is. Devin goes down first and the others follow. Once they're all done, Ramona says she's sorry and closes the hatch.
They look down over the ship and decide to stick to the plan. They go downstairs and find pods containing Hannah and Anthony. Devin stops Cece from touching it. They pull out their supplies. Cece injects the serum into Anthony's pod. Nothing happens right away, but then the pod dissolves. Anthony drops to the ground and Devin covers him with a blanket. Frankie notices the ship moving and they decide to leave the room. They get out and close the door.
Office Morales tells Jen his buddy was able to do the favor and tracked Alex down. The system was working just fine and then suddenly, the GPS went dark. Jen says she can't reach Alex or any of her friends. She missed curfew and didn't come home at all. Anthony is also gone and she knows something is happening. She asks if Alex could have removed the monitor. Morales says no. The system would know if she tampered with it. He thinks she's probably just underground somewhere, like a subway station. Jen suddenly gets in her car and leaves. He confesses his love to her as she drives away.
Devin finds someone's living quarters. The closet has a protective suit in it, which he finds useful. Frankie scares him by touching his shoulder. She tells him the others didn't find anything. The corridor is just one big circle and the only way out is through the main room, where the ship is. Devin says Frankie seems calm considering everything. She admits that she's actually terrified. He hugs her and tells her they're going to get out of there. Cece scares them by arriving. She tells them Anthony is fully awake.
Anthony looks at Matty's pod and says he was there the whole time. He wishes he'd kept looking. Anthony wants to revive him, but Devin says Ramona only gave them one dose and they used it on him and then she locked them down there. Anthony says they're in a tough spot. He acts like he has a plan, but then admits he doesn't. Cece says they need to get the hatch open. Anthony can open it from up there, but says there's no way to open it down here. Anthony remembers that the hatch opened the first night they were there and asks how. They all look at Trey and he asks how he was supposed to know the transformer would blow up if he jammed bolt cutters into it.
Anthony lays out blueprints and says Trey blowing out the transformer cut power to the facility, which triggered the hatch to open. That's why Ramona kept power flowing into the facility. It's like a safe with an electric lock. They have to figure out how to cut the power from inside. Trey took a class in electrical engineering and got a C+. Anthony isn't encouraged and asks if anyone else has any experience. Alex once hot-wired her mom's car. Trey says he can read electrical plans. He shows them four pedestals that are connected and open the ceiling when they're turned on. That's probably how they got the ship inside the building. Cece says they need to focus on the hatch. Trey points to a fuse box in the main room. Anthony says Trey will cut the power, the hatch will open, and they'll all run for it. C.J. reminds them that the serum wore off an hour ago so they'll end up in pods before they even reach the stairs. Anthony looks over at Number 5's suit and asks them again how Ramona's father disabled the ship.
Anthony is wearing the suit, minus the helmet. Devin suggests going with him, but Anthony says there's only one suit. The only thing that matters to him is getting them out. They saved him and now it's his turn. He hugs them and says he'll be out in no time. Devin makes a plant joke to lighten the mood. He reminds them of the plan. He'll put the cartridge in, then Trey cuts the power and they run. He sends them away, then puts on the helmet and enters the main room. The teens watch from the control room as Anthony hooks up the canisters. Trey is waiting. Anthony starts the injection. The ship reaches over and knocks Anthony over. He gets up and pulls the canisters over to plug them back in. The ship swings at him again, but stops before it hits him and slinks back into itself. Anthony gives a thumbs up and Trey sends the others out as he pulls out bolt cutters. He hits the fuse box and starts running.
The teens run toward the stairs. They call for Anthony to join them, but he says the connection's broken, so he has to hold it while they get out. He says he'll be right behind them.
The teens climb up out. They call back for Anthony, saying they're out. Trey thinks another backup generator is about to activate, meaning the hatch will close again. Cece wants to go back down. Trey tracks the generator powering up as Anthony appears with Matty, Hannah, Sameer, and Nicole, telling the teens to help them up. Anthony gets out just before the hatch closes. Cece says he almost died, but Anthony couldn't leave them. Jen comes in and is shocked to see Matty. She screams.
Devin goes to the fridge. He apologizes because they haven't been to the store, but he offers Hannah some kombucha. Hannah opens it and asks Devin about his relationship with Matty. Hannah doesn't like the taste of the kombucha. Hannah has the sense she's met Devin before and he says they have.
Matty opens up a tub of his things. Included is a newspapers with a headline about him and his friends being declared dead. Anthony comes up behind him and Matty asks if he's Stink. Anthony says he hates that nickname. Matty's starting to remember what happened. Anthony tells things from his point of view. The police said they drowned, but their mom never believed it. He tells Matty they looked for him. Matty says it's okay. He jokes about Anthony being old. Anthony says he became a botanist, which doesn't surprise Matty. And Cece and Devin are his kids. Matty says he's proud of Anthony. They hug and Anthony tells Matty he missed him so much. Matty says he's sorry for not listening to Anthony's bad feeling that night.
Anthony finds Jen on the porch and tells her to come in because Matty's asking for her. She says she can't. She went to Matty's funeral, so it's too much. Anthony says Matty just wants to talk to her. Jen says it's not just her catching up with her high school ex. They have four presumed dead kids in his house. She's a cop, so they need to tell someone. Anthony says they can't because they'll take Matty and they'll never see him again. Jen asks what his plan is. Anthony says they know there's an alien ship under Fort Jerome. They need to stop it. The only person who knows how is Ramona Pamani. Jen says that woman tried to kill their kids and Anthony. She also prevented them from seeing Matty and his friends for thirty years. Anthony says this isn't a tape she can bury. They have to confront it head on.
Nicole, Matty, Sameer, and Hannah watch Love is Blind and find it bewildering. Matty tells the other teens that television has gone downhill and the others want to go for a walk. Cece says Anthony said they needed to stay there and not contact anyone until he got back. Matty knows why he said that, but they need some air. Devin understands, but Cece says they need to listen to Anthony. People who are supposed to be dead can't be out walking the streets together. Devin suggests having them split up. He can go with Hannah. Frankie looks at him and he says he doesn't have to go with Hannah. Matty says Nicole's dying for a coffee. Devin looks at Frankie, who says she can't go to the coffee shop after hours. After a moment, she gives in. C.J. says he can take Sameer to get food at the restaurant. Matty agrees to stay at the house to make Cece feel better. Cece okays it.
Jen and Anthony arrive at Ramona's. Jen tells Anthony he needs to let her do the talking. She pulls out her gun as they go inside.
Jen and Anthony look around Ramona's place. They find her experimenting on her father. Anthony says after all she put them through, she's not containing anything. She says she can't keep doing it herself and she needs her father's help. Avi becomes more alert and asks Ramona how long it has been. She tells him it's been fifty-five years. She tells him about the work she's done. He's horrified by what she did. He says he was wrong and she has to let him go. He clutches his chest, saying this isn't him. He coughs up a pod that encases him and turns into a critter. Jen points her gun at it and shoots it. Ramona says that won't work. They'll need to use the serum gun. Jen and Anthony run out and the critter chases them. As it hovers over Anthony, Jen shoots it with the serum gun, dissolving it. Jen realizes the kids are in danger given what happened to him.
Sameer asks C.J. to stop for a minute because he doesn't feel well. He gets off the scooter and the same thing happens to him as happened to Avi.
Hannah leads Devin to where her apartment building used to be. It's been torn down and a new building is being constructed in its place. Devin watches as Hannah goes through the same process. The critter lunges at Devin, but is stopped when a car hits it. As it starts to get up, Devin runs away.
Nicole also goes through the transformation. Devin enters the coffee shop and pulls Frankie out, closing the gate behind them, leaving Trey behind as his transformation starts.
Matty and Alex look over old photo albums. He gets up to get a drink. Alex hears a noise from the kitchen, and Matty saying this isn't him. Cece brings in more photo albums. Alex covers her mouth and tells her not to move. Cece asks where Matty is and Alex gestures toward the critter that used to be Matty. They scream and leave the house as it comes after them. They meet up with Frankie and Devin in the street and say they're all aliens. Devin and Frankie know and say they got Trey. They see C.J.'s abandoned scooter and realize they got him, too. The critters surround them.
Anthony and Jen get to Anthony's house. They find the kids' clothes and realize they were podded. Jen thinks they're too late, but Anthony says not yet. They get back in Jen's car and Anthony tells her they have to release the ship.
Anthony and Jen get to Fort Jerome. Anthony says when he was in the pod, he felt a connection to them. Avi felt it, too, which is why he told Ramona to let it go. The aliens aren't bad. They were just defending themselves. They heard noises as they move. They come across a critter. It lunges at them and Jen shoots it with the serum gun. Another comes up and Anthony sprays it with serum from a canister. He uses the same canister to break the lock on the gate to the fort. Jen shoots another critter and says that was the last dart. They run inside, shutting the gate behind them as a critter runs into it.
Anthony explains the plans he saw to Jen. The whole floor is designed to open. He tells Jen to turn everything on. Jen questions him, but he says it's their only chance of saving the kids. They open the floor and the aliens all reunite with the ship, including the critter that has found them. Then the ship launches out.
Anthony sees Matty, who tells him he has to go and this time, Anthony can't go with him. Anthony begs him not to leave, but Matty says Anthony can't be there for him. But he can be there for Cece and Devin. It's time to let him go. He says he's okay, they're all okay. The aliens are taking them with them. He walks into a light with Sameer, Hannah, Nicole, Avi, Ramona, Number 3, Number 4, and Number 5.
Anthony wakes up to Jen telling him he saved the kids. They're going to be okay. They look down into the empty facility.
The alien ship goes up into space.
Anthony gets home and calls for Cece and Devin. He finds Cece sitting with Alex on the porch and tells Cece they need to go. Their mom said not to be late and he wants to take them to his favorite ice cream shop on the way. As he goes to get Devin, Cece asks if Alex has ever done the long-distance thing. Alex says she's never done any sort of thing before, so she might as well give it a shot. Cece invites Alex to her first debate tournament. Alex thought she wasn't doing debate anymore but Cece says she loves it. She's just done doing it for any reason besides that. Alex agrees to come. They hold hands as they walk off the porch. Frankie tells Devin she doesn't want him to leave. He says okay. He talked to his dad and doesn't want to leave him in Gravesend alone. He hated St. Agnes anyway. He feels like he found his people there. Frankie smiles and hugs him. Trey comes up to them and when they pull apart, he tells them they don't have to hide it. Anthony comes out and tells Devin to say goodbye. C.J. arrives with some food to say goodbye. He not only got his job back, but he got the promotion he wanted. They all hug and then Cece and Devin get in the car. Once they're gone, the others disperse. Trey steps onto his porch. He coughs something up and then says, "That's not good."
