Goosebumps the Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium (also known as just Goosebumps: The Musical) is a musical theatre production that has run shows from 2016 to the present. The show is based off the 24th book of the same name.

Synopsis[]

Brooke and Zeke have been cast as the leads in the school's new production of an old play about a Phantom. Strange things start disrupting rehearsals and they have to wonder: is this someone's idea of a joke? Or is the Phantom real?

Production[]

The musical was commissioned by First Stage Children's Theatre and Oregon Children's Theatre. The musical made its world premiere performances at the Todd Wehr Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the Newmark Theater in Portland, Oregon, both in the Fall of 2016. Both shows were received positively by reviewers, and the following year, the show made a third performance at the Roanoke Children's Theatre in Roanoke, Virginia. Presently, the show has made performances all across the United States.

Differences from the book[]

Trivia[]

  • While the show is an adaptation of the original book, the opening song, Goosebumps, pays homage to the series, and makes references to other Goosebumps books, including Say Cheese and Die, Revenge of the Lawn Gnomes, Let's Get Invisible, and Night of the Living Dummy.
  • While in the book, Esmeralda's boyfriend is named Eric, the show names him Raoul, which is the same name as the original character in the Phantom of the Opera book and broadway adaptation which served as the inspiration for Stine's novel.
  • The Cast Recording Album features the voice of R.L. Stine as Principal Stine in the song, Whodunit?
  • The Cast Recording Album Cover features an illustration from Tim Jacobus, the first official Goosebumps commission he has done since the 2015 Goosebumps film.
