Goosebumps Dead of Night is a first-person survival adventure game developed by Cosmic Forces and released on June 19, 2020. It is a sequel to Goosebumps Night of Scares. Just like in Night of Scares, you play as a character named Twist.

Although CEO Ziad Seirafi confirmed that a free "Hard Mode" update will be coming out in the fall of 2020, there hasn't been any sign of one yet.

In Goosebumps Dead of Night, the best-selling Goosebumps franchise has been reimagined as a first-person spooky survival adventure game. Experience three chapters of stealth gameplay with 3D graphics and chilling AI monsters.

Slappy the Dummy has unleashed a nightmare of Goosebumps monsters, and they’re all out to get you! Escape from frightening creatures like the Graveyard Ghouls, Lawn Gnomes, Annihilator 3000, Murder the Clown, and the Werewolf of Fever Swamp as you collect the scattered pages of Slappy’s book to seal him away. You’ll explore infamous Goosebumps locales for clues, hide from monsters, and solve Slappy’s devious puzzles.

It’s up to you to stop Slappy’s evil plan to unleash his monsters across the world… don’t worry, you’ll have some allies along the way like Nikola Tesla, Dr. Brewer, Margaret Brewer and R.L. Stine, voiced by Jack Black. For the faint of heart, player beware—you’re in for a scare!

Critical reception

Goosebumps Dead of Night received lukewarm reviews from critics, with the most common critiques being directed at its short length and high price tag. Pure Nintendo gave the game a 4.5/10, saying the game barley captured what made the books so great. Screen Rant felt the game had an interesting story, but thought the game as a whole was an "unpolished nightmare." Despite this, they considered it to be a fun game to experience. Similarly, Stuart Gipp of Nintendo Life also enjoyed the game and even thought it to be frightening and atmospheric at points, rating the game a 5/10. But like other reviewers, he too criticized the game for its technical problems, lack of content, and price tag. Chris Carter of Destructoid called the game a "disappointment" and rated it a 2/10, advising readers to play Goosebumps: The Game instead.

• The retail release of the Nintendo Switch version includes a set of exclusive Goosebumps trading cards based on the game's loading screens.
• Whenever Stine speaks, the captions refer to him as "STINEWRITER."
• This game says that there are over 400 million Goosebumps books in print worldwide.
  • Stine also says that he is a billionaire. In real life, Stine's net worth is $200 million.
• R.L. Stine is listed under Jack Black and Mick Wingert in the credits.
• Several titles on the spines of the books in Stine's bookshelf are incomplete.
• At one point in the game, a giant spider leaps out at you from the breadbox in the kitchen. The spider is likely a reference to Are You Terrified Yet?, since both the spider in the game and the one on the cover of the book look similar.
• This game coincidentally shares its name with a few of Stine's older works: a Fear Street omnibus of the same name, a short story anthology titled The Haunting Hour: Chills in the Dead of Night, and an unpublished short story also titled Dead of Night.
• This game references Pepsi and Coca-Cola. One of the achievements in this game is called "Child's Play," which is likely a reference to the slasher franchise of the same name.
  • Murder the Clown also has an unusual introduction where he pops out of a Jack-in-the-box (Slappy releases him). Murder also carries an oversized lollipop instead of an ax.
• Slappy has a new power in this game where he is able to emit a green gas from his boutonnière that turns the player into a plant.

Goofs

• When Twist is first introduced to Stine, Stine says, "That dummy you saw is Slappy." However, Twist wasn't there during the opening sequence where Stine was trapped inside the typewriter, so he couldn't have possibly seen Slappy before.
• Stine claims that Slappy escaped from a book; however, Slappy has his own permanent bedroom in Stine's house.
• A statue in Stine's house states that Tesla died in 1943. However, he still guides the player throughout the third level, providing them with hints and even criticizing their gameplay.
• Although Stine claims that red Gnomes will kill you, they are never seen in this game. This could possibly be a reference to the red Gnomes in Goosebumps Night of Scares.
• It is unclear why the Graveyard Ghoul appears from a mummy sarcophagus.
• All the monsters mysteriously disappear after Slappy leaves for Dr. Brewer's conservatory. If you continue to explore the house even after Slappy left, you can still find him running through the hallways.
• Strangely enough, none of the plot points to this game are ever resolved when it ends. Stine is still stuck in the typewriter, Dr. Brewer and Margaret are still plants, and the monsters haven't been sucked back into their books.
• The word "Corona," part of the typewriter's name "Smith Corona," is misspelled as "Corano" on the typewriter itself.
  • More typing errors include punctuation and capitalization mistakes in the game's English subtitles, such as referring to Murder the Clown as "murder the clown" in lowercase.
