Differences from the book[]

  • Nat is completely omitted from the television episode.
  • In the book, it was Agatha that told the story of the Sadlers to Jerry and Terri after they discovered the tombstones for Sam, Louisa and Nat. In the episode, Harrison tells the story and it is before they discovered the tombstones for Sam and Louisa.
  • In the book, Jerry and Terri found the dog skeleton in the forest. In the episode, they find it on the beach.
  • The ending is slightly extended to imply that Brad and Agatha will eat Harrison's dog.
  • The opening dream sequence is removed.
  • The episode mentions Harrison earlier on, as they find a gravestone with his name and Sam & Louisa tell them that Harrison Sadler is the ghost haunting the cave, while in the book he was not introduced until they meet him.

Trivia[]

  • This television episode was adapted into Goosebumps Presents Book #13.
  • The dog is still in the house barking as the episode ends.
  • This is one of the three episodes that internet personality JonTron reviewed for his 2013 Halloween special. The other two were "Don't Go to Sleep!" and "My Hairiest Adventure". All of which, however, were reviewed in a negative light.
  • This episode's director, Steve DiMarco, was also a director for the 1985 Twilight Zone series.
  • The Goosebumps Presents book adds in a line after the opening scare, where Louisa says, "I told you we shouldn't have done it, Sam".
    • The first scene with Brad and Agatha appears to be during dinner, but the Presents book changes it to lunchtime.
    • When they find the dog skeleton, Jerry first suggests it's a raccoon. The book changes this to deer.
    • The scene where Jerry convinces Terry to go with him to the cave for the first time is extended, showing more of her concern and properly "showing" them leaving the house. While the episode cuts straight to the cave, the Presents book has more of their trek up there.
    • In the episode, their meeting with Harrison Sadler has him approaching them first while in the Presents book, they walk in on his room he has set up. The book also adds in a chase scene, with Harrison capturing them before telling them that the kids they meet are the ghosts.
    • Jack Jessop, who played the role of Brad Sadler in the episode, was in his mid to late 60's at the time, making him one of the oldest cast members overall. He later passed away at the age of 90.
    • Dorothy Gordon, who played the role of Agatha Sadler in the episode, was in her early to mid 70's at the time, making her one of the oldest cast members overall as well. She later passed away at the age of 89.
