Emile is a mysterious man who lived in the catacombs under Woods Mill Middle School. After Brooke Rodgers and Zeke Matthews accidentally find the tunnels under the trapdoor of the school Auditorium, they run into Emile, who claims to be the school's night janitor. He warns the kids about the trapdoor before they make their leave. As time goes on, mysterious sabotage attempts begin to befall the school's production of The Phantom. Everyone starts to believe this to be the work of Zeke, due to his nature of playing pranks on everyone. After he gets framed with spreading paint all over the sets (red footprints leading to his locker), Zeke, Brooke and a boy named Brian Colson return to the underground tunnel to find out the truth.
They find a mysterious shack deep within the tunnels and are once again confronted by Emile, who panics over them finding his home. He reveals that he is a homeless man. When he was young, his father worked at the school and would take him there. After he was unable to keep his apartment, he started to live under the school. He admits to framing Zeke and trying to scare them off his trail, but when they bring up the story of the Phantom, he claims to not know what they're talking about, having never heard of the original story of The Phantom before. The kids manage to escape. When Police arrive later, there is no trace of Emile, as he managed to make his escape in time.
Emile's role is pretty much the same as the book, with a major difference being that the episode version appears to be aware of the story of the Phantom, dressing as the Phantom in his many attempts to sabotage the play and get Brooke and Zeke off his trail.
Emile's personality seems to be very serious and angry, most likely due to the fear of his hideout being found.
In the book, Emile is described as being a short man with thick, scraggly white hair, dark, angry eyes, a purple scar on the side of his face and a raspy, hoarse voice.
