Billy McGee is starting at a new middle school after his family was forced to move due to no longer being able to afford their old house after the death of his mother. His new school is in a rich neighborhood, but he manages to get along with the students despite not being as well off as them. Dad got a job at the dump in order to make extra money. While at the dump, Billy and his sister Maggie find a suitcase containing an old [[Slappy the Dummy|dummy]]. When they get home, they find a card in his pocket with [[Karru Marri Odonna Loma Molonu Karrano|strange words]] on it. They read them and suddenly Slappy comes to life and starts insulting the family, and spewing cockroaches everywhere.

Billy's Dad demanded he get rid of it, Slappy then started to barf out cockroaches. Billy, Maggie, and their dad struggle to get Slappy back in the suitcase, until Slappy stuffs Billy into the suitcase. Dad released Billy from the suitcase after Maggie walloped Slappy over the head with a frying pan. Slappy was then tucked into the suitcase to be taken back to the dump. Billy and Maggie went into the garage to look for some insecticide, that's when Maggie found Slappy's diary. Billy and Maggie read through some of the horrible deeds Slappy has done through out his existence. Dad takes the book away from Billy and Maggie and tells them to go to bed.
+
After a struggle, Maggie knocks Slappy out with a frying pan and they shove him back into the suitcase, then take him back to the dump. When they get home, they find a diary that fell out of the suitcase and discover that it belongs to Slappy. They read it and find entries of Slappy bragging about the troubles he has brought to previous owners. Maggie finds an entry she finds interesting but Dad swipes the diary away before she can tell Billy about, and then forces the kids to go to bed.

  +
The next day, Maggie explains that one entry had Slappy mentioning wanting to find The Gold, and they assume that this treasure could finally make them rich so dad won't have to worry about finances. The diary ends before he can go into more detail, but he says it will be continued in Diary #2, and the siblings now want to go back to the dump to possibly find it in the suitcase. Despite their dad's orders to avoid the dump, they go there the next day and find the suitcase, only to discover that it is empty.
In the morning Billy and Maggie wanted to find the diary but didn't have much time so they decided to look for it after school. When school was done, Billy and Maggie found the diary under a pile of magazines in their dads room. Billy and Maggie head to the kitchen to find a note that said their dad will be home early. They read the book and it says that Slappy wants to find The Gold. Billy and Maggie get excited about The Gold, daydreaming that they will be rich if they find it. Slappy's diary also mentioned there was a second diary. Billy and Maggie want to find the suitcase because it might contain the second diary. They head to the dump and find the suitcase.

Back at home, Billy tries reading the diary again and discovers a clue he hadn't noticed before, as there is a mention of a Coldman House, a house in their neighborhood that is rumored to be haunted. They go there, along with Maggie's friend Laci and find a chest containing a man trapped in a block of ice, who breaks out of it easily. He introduces himself as The Cold Man and tries to trap Billy in the chest, but once he grabs the kids, their heat starts to melt him. Then an elderly man walks who tells them he is the gardener. He takes them to the garden, which is seemingly bare until vines start rising up and twist around the kids.
When Billy and Maggie open it, it's empty. It started to rain and Billy and Maggie tried to find their way back until they got caught by their dad and taken back to the house. Billy and Maggie tell their dad about The Gold but he didn't want to hear any of it after what the kids tried to pull off. It was Saturday the next day. Maggie and her friend Laci were in the den playing Sims 5 on dad's laptop. Billy reads more of Slappy's diary to find more clues. Billy read more about The Gold and how Slappy wants it for more power. Billy and Maggie don't care about power, they want The Gold so they can easily afford their house. Billy saw some blotted out words and they read, "The Coldman House" Billy remembers about The Coldman House, it's said to be haunted and it's in town as well. Billy went to the den to ask Laci if she knows about The Coldman House.

Laci, being small, is able to slip out and she helps Billy and Maggie escape from their vine prison. They run back into the house and end up in a library where they find Slappy's second diary. Before they can read much of it, a female dummy comes in who introduces herself as Goldie. She reveals that she is The Gold that Slappy was referring to. She has powers Slappy has been pining for and was behind the vines and other dangers the kids were facing. She claims she was created alongside Slappy by the sorcerer and that the kids will be her slaves.
Laci said everyone knows about The Coldman House. Maggie gets in on the conversation and is scared to go near the haunted house. Billy says the second diary of Slappy might be there, and the second diary might also tell them where The Gold is located. Billy, Maggie, and Laci went on their way to The Coldman House during a storm. When they get to the house, they enter and see the house is dusty with old furniture. Maggie finds the kitchen, and when the kids enter the kitchen they open a freezer in hopes of finding The Gold. Sadly, there was only a big block of ice in the freezer, but the ice started to crack. A pale freezing man rose from the cracking ice and made an attempt to shove Billy into the freezer to take his place. Maggie and Laci struggled to free Billy, but the pale freezing man melted and evaporated through the floor. A man then stepped into the kitchen wearing a gray cap covering white hair, stained baggy jeans, and a plain fladdel shirt. The man asks if the kids delivered any mulch. Billy, Maggie, nor Laci know of any mulch. The man offers to show the kids his garden.

Goldie sees that Billy has one of Slappy's diaries and takes it for herself, then summons rats to attack the kids. In a desperate plan, Billy brings out a sandwich he had packed for himself and throws it Goldie. The rats swarm around here, which allows the kids to run away, but Slappy appears in the doorway before they can escape. After confirming that he and Goldie are siblings, he reveals that the second diary, which Goldie wanted, actually belonged to her.
When he shows them the garden, it hardly had any plant life. The man magically made beatiful plants appear from the ground waving his hands around. Billy, Maggie, and Laci were astonished. Vines then started to form around the kids and they were trapped. The man said the kids were the mulch and he took off. Billy, Maggie, and Laci manage to get free after a lot of effort, and they make an attempt to escape. The floor starts to rock back and forth and a droor slid from a table, revealing a black book. Billy read the front of the book and it said, "My Diary" Billy, Maggie, and Laci had got the diary. Maggie got her hands on it and the diary read that Slappy and The Gold were both in this house. Goldie (The Gold) appears. Goldie was a ventriloquist dummy that had a wild hive of curly blond hair, bright blue eyes, and a short stubby nose.

  +
The dummies fight over the diary and use their powers to mess with each other. Using one of the spells from the book, Slappy turns Goldie into a rat. The kids ask to be finally let go and he says he has one more trick. He chants some words, and suddenly the kids start obeying his every whim.
She wore a flowered top over a black skirt and black tights. Goldie also had that evil grin, like Slappy's. Goldie says that Slappy calls her The Gold and that he sent her the kids to be servants. Slappy wanted Goldie because she had powers Slappy could never have. Goldie mentions that she made the freezing man, the gardener, and the rocking floor all in the powers of her magic. Billy, Maggie, and Laci make another attempt to escape until a loud explosion stops them in their tracks. The kids are then shoved against walls and are unable to move away from the walls. Goldie demands that Billy give her the book but Billy refuses. Goldie then makes the book really hot, but Billy still won't let her have the diary. Goldie gives up and will let the kids go home if they give her the diary.

Billy didn't believe her words. Billy says that she release him and his friends from the walls and they can make a deal. Goldie releases Billy, Maggie, and Laci from the walls. Goldie stood in her spot doing nothing for a while until she charged at Billy with all her might. Goldie bumped against Billy and the diary fell from his hands. Goldie got her hands on the diary before anyone else could. She cackled in victory. Billy asked her if she would let him, Maggie, and Laci go home, but Goldie didn't let them escape. Goldie then sics her rats onto Billy, Maggie, and Laci. The rats swarm the kids until Billy shows them the sandwich he had in his pocket for the trip to the haunted house. Billy throws the sandwich at Goldie and the rats swarm her. Billy, Maggie, and Laci head to the front door and when the front door swung open, Slappy was there, grinning his evil grin. Slappy says the kids are new servants Goldie has found.

Slappy made his way to Goldie, still swarmed by rats. Slappy mocks Goldie to how she is swarmed by rats and Goldie was annoyed. Goldie shouted some magic words and the rats took off. Slappy and Goldie insult and annoy each other. Slappy says that he is Goldie's brother and that the two were made together by the same sorcerer. The sorcerer gave Goldie the powers that she could teach Slappy. Slappy and Goldie continued to insult each other. Billy, Maggie, and Laci see the front door wide open and make a run for it. The door slammed shut in their faces. Billy says that Slappy should let them go but Slappy wants the kids to be slaves for him and Goldie. Goldie doesn't want the kids to be Slappy's slaves, and shouts that they are her slaves. Billy makes an offer to give Slappy something he wants and he let the kids go home.

Slappy says that he wants something that was stolen from him. Billy holds up the black diary. Billy says the diary is the second diary and it's the one Slappy hid in The Coldman House. Slappy took the diary and looked at it for a moment. He said that the diary was not his and he never started a second diary. Goldie mentions that it's her diary and makes a grab for it. Slappy swings it out of her reach and giggled. Slappy pawed through the pages to look for something he wanted to try out. Goldie bumped into Slappy and she grabbed the book.

Goldie then read, "Haru Maroni Melekano Gorinus." Slappy then twisted into a pretzel shape. Slappy says he scanned the words when Goldie took it and memorized it. Slappy said the magical words, "Corrado Meloheeno Avay Avay Meloheeno." Goldie then turned into a yellow rat and scampered away into a hole in the wall. Billy, Maggie, and Laci thank Slappy and asks if they can leave. Slappy says the kids can't leave and they have to become his slaves. Slappy then says some more magical words, "Kolonu Peeta Reeta Morano." Billy, Maggie, and Laci then turned into his servants, willing to do anything Slappy tells them to do.

Billy McGee finds a ventriloquist dummy at the dump. The dummy's name is Slappy, and he causes a whole lot of trouble. But Slappy isn't the only thing Billy discovers. There's a diary as well. What do you do with a diary written by a dummy? Do you read it? Billy has to figure out that answer fast. But Slappy's diary isn't just daily thoughts and feelings. There are clues that lead to something special. Is Billy brave enough to follow Slappy's darkest secrets?
