Brian O'Connor is the main protagonist of the seventh short story from Even More Tales to Give You Goosebumps, "The Perfect School" and its accompanying television adaptation.

History[]

Brian was a kid who never got along with his parents. In fact, he could never really please or impress them. When Brian's parents come across an advertisement for "The Perfect Boarding School", they quickly send him away, thinking it could do him some good. When Brian gets on the train, he befriends this boy named C.J., who has also been sent to the Perfect School. When he finally arrives there, he is greeted by a couple of the school's "graduates": some robot-like children in dimly gray uniforms.

The new students are then greeted by the school's director, who says the kids will each be assigned a number that replaces their name. Even stranger, staff members must be simply referred to as Guardians. Of course, the Guardians soon become aware that Brain is a troublemaker, given his history. They tell him that he will be moved to a different, more advanced course than the other kids. Brian is then dragged to "The Pattern Room" and quickly realizes something strange is going on. He is weighed, and his proportions are measured. Brian attempts to call his parents, but he is stopped by the headmaster.

Later, while he's in his room, Brian hears some students crying out for help through a vent. They tell Brian that the school replaces students with robotic lookalikes. Brian tries to escape, but he is stopped by C.J., who's revealed to work with the Guardians. Brian goes home to his parents, who seems reformed for some reason. It's then revealed he is not reformed as it's explained that he trapped the robotic C.J. and imprisoned his robotic look-alike. He plans to go back another day to save all the children, but for now — he must keep up his role.
