Barton Suggs is the protagonist of the twelfth book in the Goosebumps SlappyWorld book series, My Friend Slappy.
History[]
Barton Suggs is a kid who has it rough. Aside from Lizzie Hellmann, he has no other friends. He's also constantly the target of bullies Travis Fox, and his former friend Kelly Washington. The two boys constantly make Barton's life miserable, including causing him to fall into a vat of chocolate at his dad's DaffyTaffy factory. His father, wanting to help Barton make friends and be more social, gets him a ventriloquist dummy named Slappy. Barton soon learns that Slappy can be brought to life with the magic words in his breast pocket, but at first opts against it.
After more problems with Travis and Kelly, Barton brings Slappy to life. However, despite all of Slappy's horrible acts, it seems that Barton actually likes the dummy and works with him to get revenge on Travis and Kelly. First causing Travis to spin in the air and go crashing into a tree. Later, Slappy puts a spell on Kelly to cause him to dance uncontrollably and crash into everything. Barton is pleased with his revenge, but Slappy turns his focus on Lizzie. After Slappy destroys Lizzie's plush dog collection, Barton manages to read the paper in time to put Slappy to sleep.
Some time passes as Barton has gotten rid of Slappy and even is on better terms with Travis and Kelly. One day while walking home, he swears he hears Kraken, the dog of his neighbor Mr. Grimm, wanting to be his friend.

Barton is an overall good kid, but finds it hard to make friends. He is also very naive, being easily tricked by Travis and Kelly to do their homework and later tricked by Slappy in believing the dummy was really trying to be his friend. Though after defeating Slappy, it seems that Barton has a newfound confidence in himself.
