Character	Description
Slappy the Dummy	Slappy is an old evil dummy craved out of a cursed coffin’s wood. He comes to life when someone says out loud the words “Karru Marri Odonna Loma Molonu Karrano”. He narrates the introduction and prologue of this book. Aside from that, he doesn’t appear in the story, not interfering with the characters.
Violet Packer	Violet is the narrator and protagonist of this story. She is brave and smart. She is tall and thin, and she takes ballet lessons. Both her and Shawn have blonde hair.
Shawn Packer	Violet’s ten-year-old brother. Violet describes him as not being like most little brothers, which causes the two of them to get along very well. He is really obedient and sort of an introvert, and he usually doesn’t tease Violet or try to start arguments. He loves sports, and often reads baseball books, or plays sport games.
Admiral Jim Finnegan	He is Violet and Shawn’s uncle. He lives in an old lighthouse in Sea Urchin Cove, and he talks in a weird pirate accent. He is tall and has a big belly. He has a round, red face, and large blue eyes. He wears a big, white mustache, the same color as his hair.
Mr. and Mrs. Packer	Violet’s parents. They sent the kids to see Uncle Jim while they went to Argentina, for three weeks. They never really appear on the book.
Fishermen	These are fishermen Violet and Shawn see, coming from the ocean.
Marianne	Marianne works as a waitress in a restaurant called “The Whistling Clam”. She warns the kids not to approach Admiral Jim’s lighthouse, as she believes that he is keeping something evil there.
Celeste	Uncle Jim’s black talking cat. She learned how to talk while she was stranded at sea with her owner, a fisherman called Danny Lubbins. They were stranded in the ocean for almost one year, so Danny taught his cat how to talk, so that he didn’t feel so lonely.
Danny Lubbins	He was a fisherman and the original owner of Celeste the cat. He was fishing in the ocean, but the Spanish Eagle, his ship, went against some rocks and sunk. Sadly, he never made it to the shore.
Johnny Feathers	He is said to be the grandson of Blackbeard the Pirate. According to Jim, who knew him well, he was bad-tempered, but was a good sailor. He was killed by a huge cannonball, which Admiral Jim proudly keeps in his lighthouse.
Mrs. Henry	Jim’s housekeeper. No more info is given about her in the book.
Mad Madeline	She’s a living jack-in-the-box, the first one to be released by Violet and Shawn. She is a crazy pirate, and she has long, curly, blonde hair. It is revealed in the end of the book that she is just pretending to be crazy, so that the other pirates don’t force her to work.
Pepper and Salty Magee	They are two more jack-in-the-boxes who share the same body, having two different heads. They are always disagreeing on each other, which causes them to argue over minimal things.
Captain Jack the Knife	He is the main villain of the book. Captain Jack is a tough and rude pirate, and he is the leader of all the other jack-in-the-boxes. He wears a red bandana and a bright blue jacket over a black-and-white-striped-shirt. He has big brown eyes and long, frizzy, black hair, a black mustache and a long beard.
Chuckles the Chimpanzee	A chimpanzee-like jack-in-the-box from Captain Jack’s crew. He is dressed in a white sailor suit, and has a white and blue sailor cap. He goes with Violet and Shawn in the trip to Clam Island.
Captain Pip	Captain Jack’s pet canary. Violet, Shawn, Chuckles, Madeline, Pepper and Salty go on a mission to rescue him from Clam Island.
’’The Slimy Sea Worm’’ sailors	They are a gang of pirates who capture the kids when they’re stranded in the ocean.
Smitty	Smitty is one of the pirates who capture the kids. He is the favorite pirate of Captain Billy Bottoms. Smitty is tall and strong, and has long, red hair, and red beard.
Captain Billy Bottoms	He is a large man who is in charge of ‘’The Slimy Sea Worm’’. He wears a bright yellow shirt under a purple jacket, and purple trousers. He has long, shiny, black hair, and round black eyes. His face was red and fat, and he had a black mustache curled on the sides. He is also known as the “Pimple of the South Seas”. He and the Magee brothers once sailed together at a ship called the ‘’Sour Petunia’’.
