Arthur Maxwell is a character in the thirty-eighth Goosebumps book, The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena

History[]

Arthur Maxwell is the guide for the Blake family during their trip to Alaska on the hunt for the Abominable Snowman. When Jordan, his sister, Nicole, and their father all arrive, Arthur is less than friendly. He's upset that Mr. Blake brought along kids. Over dinner, the Blakes begin to question Arthur about what he knows on the Abominable Snowman legends. Arthur reveals that while he's never personally seen it, many in his village have, and a friend of his even went missing in search of it. He warns the Blakes that they're in great danger, and that going after the creature is a huge risk. However, Mr. Blake dismiss his story as mere superstition. The Blakes return to their cabin, and in the morning, discover a pair of monster-sized footprints outside. It is quickly revealed that this was all Jordan's doing. This enrages Arthur, who scolds Jordan and tells him that he won't be laughing when he actually sees the creature. After that, Arthur and the Blakes leave the cabin into the tundra. Suddenly, their sled dogs begin mysteriously barking at something up on the hillside. Arthur warns the group that there's something dangerous lurking, and convinces them to return to the cabin. At night, Arthur leaves the cabin and rounds up the dogs, sledding away and abandoning the Blakes on their journey.
