The producers of Goosebumps offer an update on the chances of a season 2 renewal, following the horror show’s major cliffhanger ending.
The article contains major SPOILERS for Goosebumps episode 10, “Welcome to Horrorland”.
SUMMARY
The executive producers are cautious about the show's future, but they are pleased with the finale and hopeful for a Goosebumps season 2.
The second season may explore the consequences of the events in the season 1 finale and delve into the personal developments and relationships of the characters.
The first season of Goosebumps has received positive feedback and performed well in terms of viewership, making its renewal chances seem optimistic.
The producers of Goosebumps offer an update on a season 2 renewal. Since its arrival on Disney+ and Hulu in October, the new Goosebumps show has received generally positive reviews and performed well in terms of viewership. Looking at the Nielsen streaming data, which is tracked with a bit of a delay, the young adult horror drama was viewed for 594 million minutes across its first six episodes and very nearly rose to the top of Nielsen's charts. Disney has also highlighted the show's strong viewership in official press releases, making its renewal chances seem optimistic.
During an interview with Decider after the Goosebumps season 1 finale, executive producers Hilary Winston, Nick Stoller, and Rob Letterman were cautious about a potential season 2. Winston, who also serves as showrunner, says the focus is on celebrating the first installment and its finale. But she adds, “We all have our fingers and everything else crossed.” Stoller, who developed the show with Letterman, strikes a similar note in the quote below: Hilary Winston: We have no idea at this point, and we’re just so happy that the finale is airing. Everybody’s gonna get to see this work. It’s one of those things where you’re like, "Let’s enjoy all of this hard work before we start talking about more hard work." But we all have our fingers and everything else crossed.
Nicholas Stoller: Early on, since we’re making this for Disney+, we were like, "How far should we go with the horror?" And they said, "Let us tell you when you’ve gone too far." So we went for it and made it as scary as we wanted it to be. Disney was really very supportive of it. But we also were staying true to the books. You know, the books aren’t like Saw. So, it would have been weird if we gone too far. We let the books guide us to what we wanted it to be.
What To Expect From Goosebumps Season 2
The last episode of season 1, titled "Welcome to Horrorland", which is written by Stoller and Letterman, with David Grossman directing, focuses on the show's core group working to save the town of Port Lawrence from the evil plans of Kanduu (Chris Geere), an evil magician who has possessed Slappy the Dummy. Kanduu has some twisted ideas about causing immense suffering to alleviate further suffering, which manifests in turning the town's citizens into dummies. Kanduu is eventually defeated, though not without a cost.
Isaiah (Zack Morris) takes the bullet for Margot (Isa Briones), saving her from a rampaging Kanduu. In turn, Margo uses Kanduu's dark magic to resurrect Isaiah who would have likely died otherwise. The cost of this would likely be explored fully in Goosebumps season 2. There's also the other tease of Mr. Bratt still seeing Kanduu in the mirror, so it's possible the villain isn't completely vanquished.
There's also plenty of personal angst for a Goosebumps season 2, starting with how Margot moves away from Lucas (Will Price) and realizes that she wants to be with Isaiah. James (Miles McKenna) and Isabella (Ana Yi Puig) also have their developments and potential relationships that have been teased and could be further explored if the horror drama is renewed. Though Disney+ have yet to announce the renewal, continued strong viewership in the season 1 finale could be the vote of confidence needed for the streaming service to move forward.
The 2023 reboot is proving a hit with fans of R.L. Stine's books, and Goosebumps season 2 on Disney+ and Hulu is already being discussed.

SUMMARY
Goosebumps season 2 hasn't been confirmed by Disney yet, but the positive reception from fans and subscribers makes a renewal likely.
The creative team behind the reboot is already discussing the possibilities for Goosebumps season 2 and beyond, with hopes for many more seasons and episodes.
The cast of relative newcomers has won over audiences, and if the show is renewed, it's likely that they will return for the second season, along with the potential inclusion of Slappy the Dummy as a central antagonist.
Goosebumps season 2 isn’t a guarantee from Disney yet, though since Disney+ and Hulu subscribers are warming to the rebooted R.L. Stine series a renewal seems likely. The 2023 Goosebumps reboot amalgamates many of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps novels and focuses them all on the town of Port Lawrence. Among plots focusing on books like Say Cheese and Die!, Got Eat Worms!, and The Cuckoo Clock of Doom is an overarching story that sees horror veteran Justin Long’s Mr. Bratt, an overwhelmed English teacher, possessed by the vengeful spirit of dead teenager Harold Biddle.
While the 2023 Goosebumps reboot wasn’t an instant hit ratings-topping success for Disney, it has received generally favorable reviews and has gone over well both with fans of R.L. Stine’s books and the general Disney+ and Hulu subscriber base. The cast of relative newcomers playing Lucas, James, Isabella, Isaiah, and Margot have won over audiences, and questions around Goosebumps season 2 are already being asked of, and answered by, the creative team behind Disney’s reboot.
Most Recent Goosebumps Season 2 News
The most recent news on season 2 of the Disney+ Goosebumps reboot came on October 11, 2023. Producer of the Disney+ Goosebumps series Conor Welch addressed the possibilities of Goosebumps season 2, as well as teasing what else Disney could potentially do with R.L. Stine’s extensive works. “Our hope is to follow this group of kids and adults for many, many more seasons and many, many more episodes to come. Because we do have every one of the books of the canon at our disposal, and there's just a lot more to dig into.” Welch explained when speaking to Comicbook.com.
While Goosebumps season 2 isn’t confirmed yet by Disney, the first five episodes have been received relatively well on Disney+ and Hulu. Only time will tell, but it seems that the intention is to continue the Goosebumps reboot into season 2 and beyond — provided the viewing figures justify it.
Goosebumps Season 2 Isn’t Confirmed (Yet)
Disney has yet to reveal if Goosebumps is renewed for season 2. This isn’t too surprising though, since the first season is still midway through its run. It’s possible that Goosebumps season 2 will be confirmed once season 1 has concluded, although if the series picks up enough momentum before the finale arrives on Disney+ and Hulu it could be announced sooner.
Goosebumps Season 2 Cast
Until the finale of the current chapter arrives on Disney+ and Hulu it’s difficult to predict who will be in the Goosebumps season 2 cast. The core cast of characters would likely remain unchanged though, especially given comments made by producer Conor Welch when he spoke to Comicbook.com about the future of the show. “We lucked out so significantly with the cast that we were able to assemble for this show.” Conor said, “These five relatively unknown young adult actors just immediately found a chemistry and were able to play into their very natural and organic dynamics they had within the group.”
With this in mind, it’s safe to say that the Goosebumps season 2 cast will see the return of relative newcomer Will Price as Lucas, Miles McKenna (Nocturne) as James, Ana Yi Puig (Gossip Girl) as Isabella, Zack Morris (EastEnders) as Isaiah, and Isa Briones (Picard) as Margot. If Will Price returns as Lucas then it’s also a safe bet that Rachael Harris (Lucifer) will be back to play his Mom, Nora.
What definitely won’t be clear is if Justin Long (Tusk, Barbarian) will be back to play possessed teacher Mr. Bratt in Goosebumps season 2. Horror veteran Justin Long returning for another season of the Goosebumps 2023 reboot is entirely dependent on how the story ends. After his experiences with the spirit of Harold Biddle it may be that he wants to leave the town of Port Lawrence for good.
Until the show is renewed, and the first chapter of the story concluded, any guesses for the cast of season 2 of the Goosebumps reboot are pure speculation. If the show gets another run on Hulu and Disney+ there’ll of course be a few newcomers to the cast list, but nothing has been announced by Disney so far.
Goosebumps Season 2 Story
The Goosebumps season 2 story is a mystery, and will be difficult to predict until the first season has ended. However, executive producers of the Goosebumps reboot Pavun Shetty and Conor Welch revealed to MovieWeb in a 2023 interview which R.L. Stine Goosebumps books they want to adapt for the second season. One thing viewers can expect when the Goosebumps season 2 release date arrives on Hulu and Disney+, according to Shetty, is a plot involving much more Slappy the Dummy.
"We do tap into Night of the Living Dummy a little bit in season one, it's not a standalone story in this, but Slappy is a part of the series, a big part, and so it was exciting to pull from those books, but not directly as far as the original and second one [Night of the Living Dummy II] went.” Shetty explained, “So I honestly think there's a lot more to pull from Night of the Living Dummy moving forward."
Slappy has featured in the 2023 Goosebumps reboot, though unlike the two Goosebumps movies, he’s not the main antagonist. It seems that in the second season Welch and Shetty want to give the iconic ventriloquist dummy a more central role, which as both the previous movies, R.L. Stine books, and 1990s TV show prove, means big trouble for Lucas, James, Isabella, Isaiah, and Margot if Goosebumps season 2 is renewed.
Do we have more Goosebumps to look forward to? The Disney+ series based off of the best-selling book series with the same name by R.L. Stine has fans absolutely obsessed! Keep reading for updates on a possible season 2.
Will There Be a ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2?
While Disney+ has yet to officially announce season 2, with the first season just dropping in October 2023, the producers of Goosebumps shared the likelihood of a renewal happening during an interview with The Direct.
“I mean, I wish it was up to us. I wish we could just greenlight everything we wanted. I wish that’s how it was,” producer Rob Letterman said, before Nicholas Stoller revealed he “really hopes [they] get another season.”
“The one thing I’ve learned in this industry is you just never know anything,” Nicholas revealed. “You know you have to make the best thing possible and hope people respond. And so I mean, I loved making this. I love working with Rob. I love working with everyone on the show. And I really, really love Disney, and Sony is fantastic. But I really hope we get another season. This was really fun.”
What Is ‘Goosebumps About?
Disney+’s Goosebumps stars Ana Yi Puig as Isabella, Zack Morris as Isaiah, Justin Long as Mr. Bratt, Miles McKenna as James, Isa Briones as Margot, Will Price as Lucas and Rachael Harris as Nora.
Per the official logline, “The series follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together — thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries and pasts with each other — in order to save it, learning much about their own parents’ teenage secrets in the process.”
THE DISNEY+ 'GOOSEBUMP' EPISODE TITLES ARE MAJOR EASTER EGGS FROM THE BOOK SERIES
Goosebumps is based off of the 1990s best-selling book series by R.L. Stine. All together, the series has over 200 books and was the best-selling series of all time for several years (pre-Harry Potter).
“We make nods to the 90s, when the books first came out. Those original fans who loved the books when they were kids still love them to this day,” Rob told The New York Post in October 2023. “And now, they’re in their 30s and 40s. We wanted the show to appeal to not only younger audiences, but also adults — with or without kids.”
