SUMMARY
Goosebumps season 2 hasn't been confirmed by Disney yet, but the positive reception from fans and subscribers makes a renewal likely.
The creative team behind the reboot is already discussing the possibilities for Goosebumps season 2 and beyond, with hopes for many more seasons and episodes.
The cast of relative newcomers has won over audiences, and if the show is renewed, it's likely that they will return for the second season, along with the potential inclusion of Slappy the Dummy as a central antagonist.
Goosebumps season 2 isn’t a guarantee from Disney yet, though since Disney+ and Hulu subscribers are warming to the rebooted R.L. Stine series a renewal seems likely. The 2023 Goosebumps reboot amalgamates many of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps novels and focuses them all on the town of Port Lawrence. Among plots focusing on books like Say Cheese and Die!, Got Eat Worms!, and The Cuckoo Clock of Doom is an overarching story that sees horror veteran Justin Long’s Mr. Bratt, an overwhelmed English teacher, possessed by the vengeful spirit of dead teenager Harold Biddle.
While the 2023 Goosebumps reboot wasn’t an instant hit ratings-topping success for Disney, it has received generally favorable reviews and has gone over well both with fans of R.L. Stine’s books and the general Disney+ and Hulu subscriber base. The cast of relative newcomers playing Lucas, James, Isabella, Isaiah, and Margot have won over audiences, and questions around Goosebumps season 2 are already being asked of, and answered by, the creative team behind Disney’s reboot.
Most Recent Goosebumps Season 2 News
The most recent news on season 2 of the Disney+ Goosebumps reboot came on October 11, 2023. Producer of the Disney+ Goosebumps series Conor Welch addressed the possibilities of Goosebumps season 2, as well as teasing what else Disney could potentially do with R.L. Stine’s extensive works. “Our hope is to follow this group of kids and adults for many, many more seasons and many, many more episodes to come. Because we do have every one of the books of the canon at our disposal, and there's just a lot more to dig into.” Welch explained when speaking to Comicbook.com.
While Goosebumps season 2 isn’t confirmed yet by Disney, the first five episodes have been received relatively well on Disney+ and Hulu. Only time will tell, but it seems that the intention is to continue the Goosebumps reboot into season 2 and beyond — provided the viewing figures justify it.
Goosebumps Season 2 Isn’t Confirmed (Yet)
Disney has yet to reveal if Goosebumps is renewed for season 2. This isn’t too surprising though, since the first season is still midway through its run. It’s possible that Goosebumps season 2 will be confirmed once season 1 has concluded, although if the series picks up enough momentum before the finale arrives on Disney+ and Hulu it could be announced sooner.
Goosebumps Season 2 Cast
Until the finale of the current chapter arrives on Disney+ and Hulu it’s difficult to predict who will be in the Goosebumps season 2 cast. The core cast of characters would likely remain unchanged though, especially given comments made by producer Conor Welch when he spoke to Comicbook.com about the future of the show. “We lucked out so significantly with the cast that we were able to assemble for this show.” Conor said, “These five relatively unknown young adult actors just immediately found a chemistry and were able to play into their very natural and organic dynamics they had within the group.”
With this in mind, it’s safe to say that the Goosebumps season 2 cast will see the return of relative newcomer Will Price as Lucas, Miles McKenna (Nocturne) as James, Ana Yi Puig (Gossip Girl) as Isabella, Zack Morris (EastEnders) as Isaiah, and Isa Briones (Picard) as Margot. If Will Price returns as Lucas then it’s also a safe bet that Rachael Harris (Lucifer) will be back to play his Mom, Nora.
What definitely won’t be clear is if Justin Long (Tusk, Barbarian) will be back to play possessed teacher Mr. Bratt in Goosebumps season 2. Horror veteran Justin Long returning for another season of the Goosebumps 2023 reboot is entirely dependent on how the story ends. After his experiences with the spirit of Harold Biddle it may be that he wants to leave the town of Port Lawrence for good.
Until the show is renewed, and the first chapter of the story concluded, any guesses for the cast of season 2 of the Goosebumps reboot are pure speculation. If the show gets another run on Hulu and Disney+ there’ll of course be a few newcomers to the cast list, but nothing has been announced by Disney so far.
Goosebumps Season 2 Story
The Goosebumps season 2 story is a mystery, and will be difficult to predict until the first season has ended. However, executive producers of the Goosebumps reboot Pavun Shetty and Conor Welch revealed to MovieWeb in a 2023 interview which R.L. Stine Goosebumps books they want to adapt for the second season. One thing viewers can expect when the Goosebumps season 2 release date arrives on Hulu and Disney+, according to Shetty, is a plot involving much more Slappy the Dummy.
"We do tap into Night of the Living Dummy a little bit in season one, it's not a standalone story in this, but Slappy is a part of the series, a big part, and so it was exciting to pull from those books, but not directly as far as the original and second one [Night of the Living Dummy II] went.” Shetty explained, “So I honestly think there's a lot more to pull from Night of the Living Dummy moving forward."
Slappy has featured in the 2023 Goosebumps reboot, though unlike the two Goosebumps movies, he’s not the main antagonist. It seems that in the second season Welch and Shetty want to give the iconic ventriloquist dummy a more central role, which as both the previous movies, R.L. Stine books, and 1990s TV show prove, means big trouble for Lucas, James, Isabella, Isaiah, and Margot if Goosebumps season 2 is renewed.
